He got a great offer from Flav and was very tempted to join Renault. In the long run do you think Kimi may regret not accepting this offer? I think Kimi will regret it, due to the fact that I think over the next 3 or 4 years renault are going to be more successful than Ferrari including next season where I feel Renault will again have a very fast and reliable car. Also Renault would suit Kimi more as a driver I feel, he would get on well with Flav and the whole team would be really be motivated to build Kimi a great car. Also I think Fisi would have been a much easier team mate to beat than Massa will be, Ferrari love Massa and Jean Todt's son manages Massa and MS's prescene I'am sure is unsettling Kimi. And obviously you have the more obvious points like the lack of Ross Brawn and signs that some key members in Ferrari are unhappy about the restructuring of the team. If Kimi doesn't start the season well and Massa starts off where he elft off last year then there are real problems for Kimi. During last season I was really really hoping that Kimi would join renault as I felt that he had a great chance of success and his career would really turn for the good there and that championships would come to him, only time will tell whether Kimi can make his Ferrari career work but he will have a few hard times ahead of him I feel. Is he up to it? Ferrari isn't dream move it was 2 or 3 years ago. I have made some bold opinions there but that is what this site is all about and say what you feel. Can Kimi make something of his Ferrari career, is the team still strong enough for his title ambitions? Are there massive obvious cracks already forming? Could Kimi be one of those really great drivers who is just not destined to be a champion like Mansell almost was? Basically a sentence to sum up what I have said in this- Kimi will have had more success if he had gone to renault than what he I think he will acheive at ferrari. I could be all wrong of course but thats life. |

The worst thing for Kimi is that if he has joined Ferrari when they fall from grace, he will shoulder most of the blame. If for one, am not writing Ferrari off yet, I have done that before and been let down! Time will tell, but if you are correct I would expect the Tifosi will not be kind! |

He won't regret it, because his relationship with Mclaren had gone stale. After the 2005 season he was never going to stay beyond the end of his contract. If Ferrari are not as competitive this year, it will be down to the loss of Ross Brawn and other key team members, not because of the drivingt side. Raikkonen is perfectly capable of winning races and championships, providing the car lasts the distance. |

Kimi could be on a hiding to nothing with Ferrari. If he wins certain sections will say 'He had a great car anyway because Massa was able to win in it in 2006.........' And if he doesn't do well or if the car becomes unreliable they will say that Kimi will never be as good as Schumacher and that he causes the car to break down etc. He will win races for the Scuderia of that there is no doubt, but I think the best Kimi can do is keep his head down, try to ignore the criticism that will come his way and just do the best he can. He can be dry with the media at the best of times and maybe that attitude will be the one to carry him through his first few months at Ferrari to deflect the attention away from himself. |

Let me see. Kimi was in a rut at McLaren and Ferrari are paying him how much? He has escaped the clutches of the Ronald's mind-control and instead of being shaved and instructed not to have a drink at all he has been asked only to keep his binges away from the spotlight. Kimi was not going to win WDC at McLaren, that whole thing had gone sour and stale and having to compete with Alonso in an identical car would just reduce the chance of either of them becoming WDC as they split points between themselves. No, he won't have (m)any regrets. |

It was the right move going to the most successful team in F1 history, Renault havent commited to f1 beyond 2009(i think) which could have made Kimi uncofortable with a team who have an uncertain future. |

I believe he had already signed for Ferrari so joining Renault was never an option. |

Kimi did publically say that he seriously considered an offer from renault so a serious attempt to get kimi was made by renault. |

But there were also rumors of Kimi having signed with Ferrari as early as 05, with certain performance objectives having to be met by Ferrari to ensure Kimi would in fact drive for Ferrari in 07, a pre-contract. Let's face it, when it come to contracts and behind the scenes stuff NO ONE in F1 is 100% honest, or even 30%. We will never know how many of Kimi's contract stories and rumors were fact, and how many were red herrings. |

I know that Flavio made a very public attempt to woo Kim, offering him all the money at Renault's disposal but that was quite a while after the news that Nando had signed for McLaren. I remember that at the time Flavio was making overtly flirtatious overtures in Kimi's direction the rumours even then were that Kimi had already signed for the red team. Ferrari have been coy about about long ago they signed Kimi but they do admit that it was a "long time" ago. I think Flavio missed the boat but I don't suppose will ever know for sure. |

Renault are famous for spending more on developing their car than driver salary. Which is why Fonzo left and Kimi went to Ferrari. These guys do it for money, remember. |
