Why do you guys think nobody wanted Cosworth? They are famous for their V8s and were extremely powerful last year. They made the highly aclaimed BMW engine look like it had the power of an Asiatech engine. Just watch these clips and you will see why i mean- Look at the power of the Cosworth- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHCwfVTybec And- the lack of straight line speed of the BMW- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIlFZ6Qd2hw Of course they were a private company and the team would have needed to have helped fund them but that V8 was a gem just didnt get the results it and Cosworth deserved. |

I think it would have been a much better idea as well for Midland to have secured their supply for this season rather than de-tuned ferrari engines. thoughts? |

in an increasingly manafacturer dependant aage, i dont think any team could afford to have a custermer engine rather than a partnership... |

Well if you watch the clip you can see how much more powerful the Cosworth is. |

I bet they are not de-tuned. Why go to the expense of de-tuning them? |

Really? I seem to recall a lot of people compaining about Ferrari's straight line speed last year...

Huh? im talking about the difference in straight line speed between the redbull and ferrari who were supposed to be using the same spec engines but obviously werent, but the ferrari was always at the top of the speed trap while the redbull was usually near the bottom. |

Oh yes! I forgot about Torro Rosso. I thought that it was a waste of time detuning them before giving them to Spyker as it is hardly necessary. I should imagine that Ferrari would not be to keen to have to compete with Adrian Newey's latest creation. I have an idea though that Ferrari's massive straight line speed advantage last year was observed mostly before the <ahem> "guidelines" on flexi-wings ? I could be wrong, but BMW were pretty fast before then as well. |

And if you recall a lot of people were saying that was because of Ferrari's "flexi wing" anyway there is a lot more than just engine grunt that affects straight line speed, the ability to get on the throttle as soon as possible through the corner, apex speed, lack of drag, high speed stability, rear wheel grip, plus the braking abilities of the car since the car that brakes later will have a higher top speed. I'm willing to bet that the 06 Ferrari was better than the Red Bull in pretty much every way. |

Now that I am a bit more awake I remember that Gerhard was rather unhappy that Torro Rosso might have to use Ferrari engines. I vaguely remember him saying that "nobody has ever won a race using a customer Ferrari engine". So perhaps they are detuned. Or at least, not the latest version. I believe that Adrian was very keen for Red Bull to switch to Renault engines. Probably every bit as as keen as Gerhard was for them not to. |
