I feel the need to talk about third and test drivers (and to break my duck by creating my first topic!) I guess it all stems from my love of Alex Wurx. From the moment he came into F1 I thought he was fantastic. I loved watching him race, and he gave some right memorable moments too, like Monaco and Schumi ....he's a real charismatic blokey too, although commentators could never get past the 'gangly' and 'goofey' descriptors which I thought were out of order... His time at Benetton was really strained, with the last season or so being particularly cruel in support for him (open to debate, obviously) I can't help feeling his time may never come now, although I was hoping he could get some sort of drive this year, until he signed with Williams. He reckons his fire still burns bright to race, but like Ant Davidson, Pedro DLR and Luca Badoer, are they now merely consigned to the 'third driver' lineup of non championship success? Anyway, there you go. My duck's now broke. Here's to the race this weekend, I'll be looking out for all their times and performances, as ever ! Nice to 'see' you all again. My god, how good it feels to type a post and not feel guilty that it's an F1 posting in an F1 forum...you know what I mean! Right, lets see if I can 'go out' on an emo con or two, like a proper non technophobe.... Trace

Not bad for a first post. I'm going to keep you company, as you may know, I'm not the greatest supporter of F1, but there aren't many people about at this time on a Friday night, so here goes. alex Wurz. is possibly the best driver in F1 without a regular drive. What he has going against him is his height. But then the same was said about Justin Wilso. I do think he's had his go though and he may have to look at another series to get a race seat. ALMS, IRL or Champcars may be the way for him to progress his career |

I remember Alex's second F1 race at Magny Cours when he subbed for Berger and outqualified Jean. Now Jean didn't particularly enjoy Magny Cours (or qualifying for that matter) but it was still an impressive result. Then I was at Silverstone for the next race where he ran just behind Jean for the entire race to finish third. First of many podiums i thought. Another stunning prediction! I personally believe Flavio has always struggled with the idea of treating team-mates equally (be interesting to see how this season unfolds...) and Alex suffered because of that. I would really enjoy seeing him back in F1 again but I think with so many really good younger drivers coming through it sadly isn't going to happen. |
