I was shocked today to read on the BBC boards that several F1 fans thought Rubens should leave F1. WTF That's nonsense to me, as he has only been at Honda for about two months and only for two races. Button was shit when he first joined all his new teams, at Williams qualifying 21st on his debut, getting thrashed by Fisi in his debut year at Benetton and then not impressing that much in his debut year with BAR, only beating Villeneuve because of the team's obvious favouritism. In my opinion people need to get off Rubens back, this talk is crazy as he has proven himself to be a fast and consistent driver in over seven seasons of F1. But what do you think? |

I think the posters on the BBC boards are idiots and don't know what they are talking about. Most of them are football fans first and anything else last |

Barrichello really needs to get to grips with the Honda quickly, but he's a far better driver than his performances so far have suggested. Every driver needs a while to settle into a new team, especially if they have been in one place for 6 years. I think it's pretty conclusive though that he's no more than slightly above average. |

i think the ferrari flattered Ruebans. I think he is a good driver but sadly never a great driver. and to be honest, i've been saying for a while that he's past his best. its not, his fault, and i dont believe in the harsh critisicm, but there are a LOT of young drivers (Davidson etc)) who arnt getting a chance because people are living on thier reputations. And i sont just mean Barrichello. SOme would claim Jaques has built his whole carreer on his fathers reputation. If these guys are competetative and quick and in with a chance of winning then i'm happy for them to say. But iof they arent up to the standard, and are stopping someone yoiung and fresh coming up through, then i believe they should go. If you've driven F1 there usually isnt any shortage of offers either to do other forms of motorsport. |

I forgot to say, a driver with over 200 GPs worth of experience should be able to settle in quickly. If he carries on like he is, Honda will look for a replacement. |

Barrichello has put in some great performances (Austria 02 Silverstone 03(?) etc, but they seem few and far between. He's never been consistant enough to threaten for a championship and in between flashes of brilliance tends to be quite mediocre. I agree that if he doesn't start beating Button soon, then he's gonna been seen as being carried by Ferrari. I always wondered if Rubens was in front of Michael in a championship, whether Michael would be asked to let Rubens by or Rubens would still have to let Michael win - the situation never arose. |

I think Rubens needs more of a chance to settle in, obviously they are committed to him for his season and he should get at least that much of a chance.... Anyone who has had a hire car or just bought a new vehicle knows what its like to drive something strange and takes a little while to get used to the subtle differences - multiply that by the fact that these cars are being driven on the limit at monstrous speeds - give the guy a break! I do agree though, that with Davidson in the wings, how long do you wait? If Rubens hasn't started to improve after a couple more races, Honda will probably be asking themselves the same question..... |

I can only asssume they have very short memories or are very very young! While I always enjoy a chuckle at Rubens Championship predictions a driver with his track record deserves longer than two or three races to settle into a new team! Some posters were suggesting his results were all to do with the car and nothing to do with his ability. But anyone who drives round the old Hockenheim ring in the semi wet on a set of slicks must have some degree of talent, i don't care what they are driving! But Rubens is at the stage in his career when people start suggesting he should move over for "new blood".He will know as well as anyone at this stage there are no second chances..... |

Villeneuve came good last year eventually, so I'm sure it'll all fall into place for Rubens. |

I think he should be given more races but i am suprised he is finding it this hard as he has done a bit of testing. The pressure is from the Constructors Chanpionship as otherwise they might as well have kept Sato, Rubens is meant to be bringing in points as well. There was an interesting article in Autosport many weeks ago talking about Rubens headspace, saying he has spent so many years blaming Schumacher for all his woes in the world , he had forgotten he was not a great driver( i paraphrase wildly) but it maybe more on the point than i thought at the time. Or maybe Button is really good, you never know |
