And more specificly, Red Bull's Ferrari engines.

Have they made a big mistake in changing from Cosworth?

I think they have, and will regret it!

I don't think they made a "mistake", since we don't know the long-term running, but right now any team that passed on Cogsworth is feeling kinda bad (and Williams is LOVING not being with BMW).

That's right, but if you look at which engine maker has had the worst reliablilty - it turns out to be Furry 'Arry

While McLaren's engines so far look reliable! Who would have thought that after the preseason McLaren have had.

IMHO They should have stuck with Cosworth

In hindsight yes...but who'd have thought that Cosworth would have been able to develop such a good V8? They've been on the back foot for years, and without Ford backing, no one would have expected them to make such a great engine. Apart from Frank evidently ;)

Wasn't the Cosworth DFV a V8? now they are free of Ford I expect cosworth to get better and better.

Yes, I believe it was...but that was many, many years ago. Engines have changed a lot since then I'm sure. They've done remarkably well, because they can't have a great deal of money for R&D.

I feel that Cogsworth is using this to prove they can still build top racing engines, so they're probably putting a large amount of R&D into this.
If they stay fast and reliable, I can see more independent teams moving to Cogsworth from other manufacturers (especially from those who also have a works team - e.g. Ferrari).

It's not long since Cosworth supplied 30% of the grid. all the time let down by poor chassis design to go with the engine.

now we have a Cosworth in a Williams - watch it fly, or outlast everyone else.
