My mother and a refrigerator

Mmmmmmm, pie!
Just left my mother's house. She will be 87 next month. She's active for her age, and while she sometimes has a little difficulty following what's going on or being talked about, overall her mind is fine. But...

When I got there her refrigerator wasn't in the kitchen, it was sitting in the sunroom next to the carport. I went into the kitchen to find a brand new fridge sitting there. So here's the conversation:

Me: did your fridge quit working?
Her: I had a new one delivered yesterday. Sunday, I heard a loud thump, and I went into the kitchen and the refrigerator wasn't making any sound, so I figured the noise I heard was the fridge breaking. So Monday I went to Lowe's and bought a new one. They delivered it yesterday. I have 6 months to pay for it with no interest.

I went into the sunroom and plugged the old (4 years old) fridge up, and it ran just fine.

Me: there's nothing wrong with the old one. And the new one you bought is smaller. Can you send it back?
Her:Well what was that noise I heard?

I go into the guest room to use the bathroom... The shower rod and shower curtain was laying on the floor..

Me: go sit down and tell me if you hear that sound again.... (I put the shower rod back in place, and then knock it down...)

Her:YES! That's the sound I heard!

So... my mother bought a new fridge because a shower rod fell, she bought a smaller one than the one she had, and financed it.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Reasoning and acting. Thats not bad. Do you keep an eye on her finances? Older folks are ripe targets for scammers.

ZOOOOOM!
Yeah, that was my thought, too. Anyone speak to her about buying a new one?
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Thanks.

She's very good with her money. I've drummed it into her about scammers, so she's gotten to the point that she doesn't believe anything... TV ad: "and if you buy one, we'll send you a second one free!" Her: "Yeah, right. and neither one of them will work"....

Also, there's this little "thing" she does... the clue is "I got 6 months interest free".... What she does is, if she buys something that she can get for an interest free period, she will. Then every time I'm there she'll say "I need to pay _____ 300 dollars this month if I'm going to get it paid off in 6 months, but I guess I'll have to just send the minimum payment this month and try to catch up....." Then on the 5th month, if I haven't already gone and paid it off, she'll say "Honey, do you think you could help me pay off that _____ this month? This is the last month I have to pay it off and avoid the interest"..... hahahahaha

So... This is the fridge she bought:

Just a plain jane white box, that is smaller than her old one - which I bought her just 4 or so years ago:

So I went to Lowes this afternoon and exchanged it for this:

and went ahead and paid for it so she won't have to play the game with me for months... :D

Nice.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

that middle drawer is handy. It holds soft drink cans at 33 degrees.
