HOLY CARP!!!
First coat of Tung oil was applied Friday morning. This is how it looked this morning. Second coat going on tomorrow. We are thinking 3 coats minimum possibly 5 or more. When the wood selection was made, we were planing on covering the interior with fabric covered high density foam. When I told Richard I wanted to finish the interior, he told me, that he wished I would have said that at the beginning as he would have selected different boards for it. The couple of knots and one edge of one board, that he called something but I can't remember, bothered him a little. I think it's the one edge of a board at the top that is lighter in shade, where two boards are joined. I think these "defects" just look cool. They add character and all that. Lots of interesting grain patterns and "figure" that makes me want to just leave it finished wood and not bother with the padding and fabric.

Those are shadows from the shop lights at the top and bottom, not a darkening of the finish. It was laying down and I held the phone above and shot this photo blind

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Finally
I missed the original post about this, and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Is that birch or cherry, Mark?

Very pretty, by the way.

I tbought this was going to be a Trump thread, too.

Mark, I can certainly understand liking the wood exposed instead of covering it up with padding, and when the guitar is hanging in the cabinet it will break up the joint lines visually, so that shouldn't be a problem. My only concern would be that you'll have an expensive guitar's wood back hanging less than an inch away from bare wood, and there will be times when the two will bump each other, possibly causing damage over time to the back of the guitar.

My thought would be to cut out a template of the guitar's back, maybe just a small one that won't be seen when the guitar is hanging in the cabinet, find the high spot on the guitar's back, cut the foam to "cup" in and follow that curve, just thick enough to push the guitar out a little so the guitar rests against it instead of hangs in front of it, and cover that foam pad with a soft black cloth.

That would hold the guitar still and keep it from swinging or bumping the back, lean the guitar out just a little at the bottom for a better presentation, but not block the view of the cabinet's wood back.

Just some thoughts..
