that is surprise to me. I did not think that they expect the % of cars to decrease that much.

Oil prices are going up. Gas prices will probably go up.

Isn't this what caused the problem for the car makers 10 years or so ago? They were making too many big trucks and stuff and when gasoline was so high, nobody wanted to buy them.

HOLY CARP!!!
Just cars, not vehicles. As a person that has never owned anything but a car (largest being a 2001 Honda Accord when we had three girls to sit in the back) I have never been able to fathom why people want to sit high up in a tippy SUV or drive around in a behemoth truck that requires 3 point turns in every parking lot.

Visibility, Safety, Convenience

That's why I like the bigger vehicle.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Not sure about the current technology, especially crossovers that are unibody, but when the SUV shift first began they were less safe. Not as good of crash ratings and more likely to roll over in a crash.

I test drove a 2018 Expedition today as part of a charity promotion. Nice ride. Not tippy at all, as I threw it around pretty good in some curves, and when I put the pedal down at 50 it still put me back in my seat. Lovely vehicle.

The problem down here is that there are so many pickups and SUVs, driving a car puts a person at a distinct disadvantage when trying to see around vehicles at turns, in parking lots or at intersections, plus the simple fact mass x acceleration means the small vehicle loses in almost any accident scenario.

I had one of those tipping over Ford Explorers back in the 90's. Mine didn't tip over.

I still love my 16 year-old Astro van.

I am above all the normal cars so I can see over them. The top half is almost all glass, I can see everything - no blind spot anywhere.

I can throw a washer, dryer or a stack of 2x4s or a load of bricks in the back, no problem.

And I can hold 8 people on sightseeing trips.

It's perfect.
