I think Donald Trump has made all of us better people.

Win.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I can't separate my view of what he does from who he is. I don't want to wish him ill-fortune, because that would be wishing ill-fortune for the country. But at the same time, I want to see his Presidency crash and burn (his Presidency, not him personally) - because he undermines important institutions and inflames political tribalness (or maybe he's just a symptom). I think it's bad for the country in the long term.

It's hard to hold those two ideas at the same time.

Maybe he's undermining the judicial system.. no wait.. the democrats were the ones who did that....

Ah.. He undermined the justice department.. no wait.. that was the democrats too..

I've got it! He undermined the FBI! No... that was the democrats...

Ok.. He undermined the IRS...no wait... that was the democrats too...

Ah! He gutted the military and destroyed morale!.. no, that was the democrats...

I know! He went like a bull in a China shop and destroyed diplomatic relationships all over the world! No... that was Obama... Trump has actually turned that around and is on the verge of the greatest achievement in that area since the ending of WWII...

The only thing I can think of that the man has destroyed is to expose the lie that was the Democrat agenda. Oh.. that, and put more minorities into paying jobs.. can't forget that the democrats need to keep those folks on the plantation so they'll vote democrat...

Journalism, the truth, civility, ethics, rule of law, keeping baby mama drama to a minimum, the state department :p

A little tongue in cheek - none of those things are, or ever have been, perfect. But he's making them worse.

What's the real difference between sh!thole countries and advanced/leading ones? Trust and belief in institutions. You shouldn't tear down what you do have trying to fix whatever flaws you think those things might have. you can't just transplant a bunch of Western education people of country into a random government and make it work.

Trump clearly often wants political wins over what's actually good for the country (and especially those who aren't in his base). Yes - every politician is after that when it comes down to it... but I think Trump strikes the balance in a much more self-centered way than others. To the determent of the country. He alone is not the one to fix all of our problems. Some may even go so far as to think he's a moron.

Didn't see your post before i posted.. still, basically my view.

Also - my point isn't that things were moving in the direction of utopia before Trump. My point is that Trump is singularly and uniquely bad as a singular force.

Blaming Trump for the pathetic state of journalism is ridiculous. In fact, your entire list of "institutions" that you blame Trump for us ridiculous. It's hard to take you serious when you're that clueless.

I never said Trump was responsible for the state of journalism. I said he was making the institution worse.

Sure - WaPo and the NYT have biases. But they have standards. Trump is encouraging the substitution of real journalism with garbage - and ironically, fake news sometimes.

To give an example. Real news stories - some that the right/pro-trumpers love - are often broken by the like of the NYT. A NYT story prompted the FBI investigation into Hillary's email server. Weinstein was broken by the New Yorker.

New Yorker has biases and often characterize things with a certain slant. But they generally don't mislead.

Selectively editing quotes, lying through omission, etc. - are not standard practice at NYT, New Yorker, WSJ, the economist, etc.

What I'm saying is. If your best news outlets don't qualify as news - then there is no news and no one knows what the fvck they're talking about.

Same thing. You're still blaming Trump for "making it worse". Trump doesn't tell them what to report on. There are several very serious and major things going on that Trump is doing an excellent job of dealing with, yet the media - and you for that matter - spend your time talking about a woman he had sex with once a decade ago, and wallowing in the bogus Russian collusion crap. To blame Trump for that is ridiculous.

Trump is not encouraging the WaPo or the NYT to do anything. They are 100% responsible for their journalism. They, like you, simply refuse to be honest.

Your argument is ridiculous on its face.

K - name some better publications. Then we'll see how many examples of poor journalism are found in those vs. the ones I listed.

(Nobody's perfect - or perfectly above board. You should know that as a Trump fan).

Xenon, I understand your arguments, but it is not at all clear to me how Trump is making top-tier news outlets worse?
