Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Zuckerberg is certainly on the hot seat.

Does anyone feel bad for him?

Will this situation Facebook is facing cause it to lose popularity to the point where it'll ruin them?

Considering how popular Facebook has been, I seriously doubt that.

However, will this whole mess cause Facebook to lose popularity to the point where it won't be among the top five most popular sites on the internet?

What do you think?

I thing Facebook is fine...as long as you realize what it is.

My kids have set up a "private" group on FB. We can talk about get-togethers, birthday and Christmas wishes, announcements that we don't want the world to know about (hopefully, it doesn't). Very useful for that.

Other crap?

Perhaps not.

Facebook’s stock price was up 4.5% today. Must be only the old folks care about being creeped on. :lol2:

Mark said he is a technology platform and not in the content business. Mark does that mean you will pipe down on your political ideology? :lol2:

Still down 15% overall since February. And he’s still got another Hill meeting to contend with.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Even with the Dow Jones down during the same period, FB has underperformed a bit but normally news like this would absolutely kill a stock. Future potential is being priced in and it is not devastating. It’s as if the sentiment is people still trust the company and the company will get through this - of course Mark could have said something disconcerting in the hours after 4pm...

I think the pipeline for users is drying up. Kids aren't very engaged on it. My generation uses it mostly as a way to coordinate events or talk to people you don't feel close enough texting.

My parents are wayyyyy more engaged than I am (relatively newer users).

That said - it'll likely be a slow decline in engagement, offset by growing ad revenue once all this kerfuffle blows over.

I think it's definitely lost luster this year as a magnet for elite talent.

Seems to me there is always “elite management talents” for just about any level of management for companies at any stage of growth/maturity.

“Elite engineering talents” in high-tech though, I’m guessing most of those started to look elsewhere once the company grown out of the “start-up” phase.

It’s not that at all. Users don’t trust Facebook, they just don’t care. About 16 percent of Facebook users feel it’s a trusted information source. But it’s the platform all their people are on so they won’t ever leave, just complain a bit and go back to their feed.

It also doesn’t help that the Senate was clearly unprepared to ask better questions. That, combined with their very short time limits and all Zuckerberg had to do was regurgitate PR talking points to get him through the day.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Great moment. He turned a notable shade of red on that one.

His risk isn’t defection in droves. It’s debilitating regulation. The stock is up because the market perceives he decreased that risk yesterday.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I don't have a link, but I was watching for a while when he made the point that FB is American and it is influencing the rest of the world. I think the Senators seemed to like that idea.

And I also think they have plenty of room to grow and they have some cash. We'll see if they can figure out the next big thing and take advantage.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy
