No discussion of the many TNCR decrepitudes would be complete without an update on your back. So howzit going? |

Hiya Cats! Seems you are following my path of being knocked on your keister by something unexpected! I was supposed to get cortisone injections, but insurance denied it. Neurosurgeon suggested another surgery this spring, but I'm going to live with the pain. Scared of surgery, or rather, complications afterwards as the surgery itself went fine. I joined a gym last week, then got a cold so haven't even started. But, I intend to start my own personal, gradual program to get back strength and see if that helps alleviate pain and weakness. Overall, I'm doing comparatively great, and hope you can follow my lead on recovery! |

Why would insurance deny the injections? That's pretty common, and a much cheaper way to treat back pain... |

Jolly, it's insurance company logic. If I point a finger in some direction for all I went through, it's at Moda (insurance), where everything was denied (well, not Everything). The physician's recommendations were overruled by insurance bureaucracy. Yes, everything that needed to take place did eventually happen, but all along the way, it was always "no" and then find a way to work the system. Along the path of "no" there was always the opportunity to appeal via a lengthy process, or, I could hire an attorney. For example, after Moda denied the original request for an MRI, the neurosurgeon said "Fvck them, go to the ER" Which is what happened, and I was then "in the system" and things needing to be done, happened. As for why the cortisone injections were denied, I believe the reason was the standard, "6 weeks of physical therapy first" BS. And this was after Moda paid for a consultation, where the Dr. recommended the procedure. The letter is around here somewhere stating the exact rationale. The reason I wanted a consult first, was that I was (and still am) paranoid about prednisone. I think you were the one that warned me a long time ago about the dangers of prednisone side effects. |

Do the jump-through-the-ring physical therapy and get the shots. Get them from a gas-passer like George, if at all possible...Those guys are used to putting needles in people's backs and seem to get better results and less complications. Sometimes ya gotta do, what ya gotta do. |

Epidural steroids for chronic back pain, particularly for long-term effect, are of questionable efficacy, and are losing appeal. |

I agree they don't solve a problem, and the relief can be ephemeral, but they certainly can buy time and positively impact quality of life. |

I take it every day, forever. And when I show signs of acute rejection (twice, now) I eat it like candy. But yeah, it has some unpleasant side effects. |

Yeah, like you're the May Queen of the forest. Those three hoodlums aren't the only folks around here that could stand a little comfort and good health, are they? Need to take care of yourself, too.

LOL, Jolly. I'm doing quite well, thank you. Making good progress. By summer, I hope to be able to do a little yard work. It needs it, and so do I.
