Brick and mortar retail - how about you?

Obviously the demise of brick and mortar retail is a result of all of us (collectively) changing our habits.

What kind of brick and mortar shoppping do you do?

For me, almost none except for groceries.

Very occasionally I’ll go to a hardware store if I don’t want to wait two days. I also shop in person for musical instruments like my sons guitar and my clav (though I ended up buying it over the phone with Rich)

Every once in a while I’ll take the boy for shoes. But half of that is online too. I took the boy for a new suit when his grandma died, no time to wait for delivery plus I needed to check the fit.

But really I’m almost all internet, except for food.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

I rarely order anything online. The only thing I order online is new tires for my car once in a while.

As for everything else, I buy at the store, whether it be groceries, going to the hardware store, or going to Wal Mart.

Funny, tires I definitely go to the shop for. But I’m neither interested in nor equipped to put them on myself.

Finally
I'd say that 90% of my shopping is online. Even groceries (the non-perishable stuff) I buy online through jet.com*. Paper products, canned goods, spices, etc. I *hate* shopping.

But yeah, tires and stuff like that is B&M.

*because I get two points for every dollar I spend. If jet doesn't have it, it's Amazon with a 5% return on my dollar.

Grocery store, hardware store, feed store, Sam's Club (sorry, don't have any other warehouse club handy), home improvement store.

Like George, 90% online other than groceries. I have sources online for pretty much everything I need that I would otherwise buy at a store. The shame is if we still ad local businesses to supply those needs i would support them, but there is little to none of that. It's all chains and I see no reason for loyalty to them.

Lingerie.

And jeans.

And makeup.

And foods and drinks.

Oh, and an occasional mom and pop shop that we might want to keep in business.

But you know what? Even with the items I listed, sometimes I'll go online for them.

Books. I’m always down for hitting up another bookstore.

Best Buy, rarely, for when I don’t want to wait the two days.

Home Depot almost all the time.

Groceries.

That’s it.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

I love B&M piano stores. I wouldn't buy a piano online.

I frequently walk into hardware /DIY stores.

Sometimes I buy clothes or shoes in b&m stores.

Wine stores, too. You can't taste wines online, obviously.

Stationery store.

Groceries.

That's it, mostly.

I do a lot of shopping at Costco. Prices are lower than Amazon and I can see what I'm getting.

Dress shoes - I have to go to Rockport's shops. Shoes are too important and I spend too much time on my feet.

Dress shirts and slacks...

Groceries

Occasionally, I also will go whim shopping.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

We're a mix. We still like to spend time out with each other, especially since MIL came to live with us 2 years ago.

Brick & Mortar shopping is a nice distraction.

Clothing, shoes, groceries, home improvement supplies, lawn care and gardening supplies, cleaning supplies, office supplies (e.g., Staples’ “back to school” discounts are hard to beat, not even by Amazon.com), car parts (e.g., car tires, batteries, wiper blades — tires and batteries just seem easier to buy them there, change them out at the shop, and dispose of old ones at the shop; in theory I could get wiper blades online but I never have).

Costco and sales beat Amazon on many things. I’m not a big shopper but will take advantage of great prices. Gifts are largely handled by my wife and I don’t meddle in how she does it.
