Never drink the good whiskey before the cheap...

Anticipating St. Patrick's day, I bought some Jameson Caskmates Irish Whiskey a while ago. Not being a very patient man (other than at work), I didn't refrain until St. Patrick's day. Tonight, I had just enough for a few fingers of the stuff.

It was pretty good,

Having finished the bottle, I refilled with my trusty Grants blended Scotch whiskey.

Welp, never have the good (or average) stuff before the cheap stuff.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

That said, I'm looking forward to doing a side-by-side-by-side comparisons of the three Macallans I have in my liquor cabinet at the moment.

Perhaps next weekend.

That happened to me with bourbon. I can usually fend off the better stuff without tainting my pallet, but then I was given 1792 small batch. I have to stay away from it, as when I followed up with the Jack it just didn’t taste right.

Having collected wine for over 30 years I am completely ruined and advise young people to never touch the good stuff if they want to save their hard earned money.

And never, ever develop a taste for good burgundy. I had to pretty much give that up when I became a parent.

's okay.

By tomorrow, my palate will have accommodated, and the cheap stuff will be acceptable.

That reminds me I haven't had any Grant's for a while. I'll have to put it on my shopping list.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I still can't bring myself to actually buy a bottle of whiskey. Scared I'll like it too much... I will satisfy myself with a glass or two every week or so.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Mmmmmmm, pie!
If you poured all the liquor I've had in my entire lifetime into a bottle, it might be half full..

Trying a glass of Knappogue Castle 12 right now. Very nice. I like it better than the Jameson Caskmates I tried before. The Caskmates had a bit of an aftertaste. I saw this at Costco for 38 a bottle. The glass cost 9.50. I think I found tge frontrunner for my first bottle of whiskey.
