ScanCafe has a deal for digitizing video tapes. I have about 8 VHS tapes that I'd like to digitize, but at least two of the cassettes have no label!

I don't have a VCR!

Any thought where I can view these tapes to see what's on them?

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I checked your public library (searched for vhs tape), and up came a couple of devices for converting vhs tapes. I think the second one has both the vhs player and the ability to write to a dvd. Comes up in your library’s catalog, but is located at another library. The must have a reciprocal agreement...

Of course!

Better quality, but not as much recording time.

U can probably find a vhs player for cheap at goodwill or Salvation Army if u can’t find a friend with one gathering dust in the basement.

Just get them digitized anyway, it’ll be fun getting the dvd in the mail and then having the big reveal.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

What Jon said. It could be a treasure...or an embarrassment, who knows! I have some camcorder tapes I need to digitize too.

Just curious: when did they stop making VCRs anyway?

Good question. I’d bet they are still made for highly specialized uses.

But I’ll bet the main retailers stopped carrying them 5 years ago or so.

We used VHS for movie rental until 2009 and we were the last among people I knew.

We also still rent DVDs. Well, borrow them at the library.

Unhackable they are, VHS. Good use cases abound.

Also Trump allegedly has a signed stormy VHS. Maybe Mueller will subpoena it.

One VCR I owned years ago started eating my VHS cassettes.

Then, years later, I rented a DVD. But I couldn't watch much of it because it kept skipping, as it had scratches on it, which I didn't realize when I left the video store.

Might just be worth $20 to view the tapes.

But then, there's always the library (which I haven't checked out yet...).

I think I still have 2 working VHS players. But it has been years since they have played anything.

We still have dozens of movies on VHS including just about everything you could buy from Disney 25 years ago.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Just another reminder that when you think you have bought content, you have really just rented it until the next technological innovation.
