I've read that his retirement benefits are calculated based on his active time, and being fired would not eliminate his benefit, only about 1% of them (assuming a 50 year career and 6 months' inactivity).

I think the FBI is like the Federal corrections system and has a different retirement than the standard FERS. Their FERS has a lower age requirement for retirement and I think their percentage of averaged salary for years of service may be higher. I do know they have TSP with a small match and they pay Social Security and are generally not subject to WEP.

In many retirement systems (certainly the one I was in), if you are convicted of a job-related felony, your retirement just went bye-bye. If you were fired for cause, such as poor job performance, whatever, you received the retirement you were eligible for.

I would guess his TSP and Social Security are untouchable.
