Very very neat.

I could see applications in less developed countries where housing problems exist and also maybe in disaster areas.

It makes sense if it is going to be reused.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Neat idea.

From the comments on the YouTube link:

"$129,000 is really steep for something so small. not even gonna mention the plumbing, electricity, insulation, and air conditioning problem."

"Next century, these houses will walk and shoot each other."

"what would happen if a kid found the button and press it is it child proof?"

Here's their website: https://www.tenfoldengineering.com

The prototype is 64 square meters (688 square feet):

But how quickly can you fold it back to its original size? Would it be a truly portable home? Something you could unfold for just a few days and then move on?

Use an RV for a few days.

I think this would be better suited to a few weeks or months. The utility hookups would probably be too much of a hassle for very short term unless you could hook up in something like an RV park.

All this is true, but if you could mass produce these things, ship them to the site an plop them in for permanent structures? It could revolutionize home development.

At 688 square feet, the size of a luxury hotel suite, you'd need two of them to make a habital house for anything more than 2 people.

I’m sure Mik has it right - meaning this is where they’re heading. Permanent structures, innovating in construction. George, I assume the early models are just proof of concept.

That was my impression as well.

The discussions on their website about water supply, waste management, etc are rather vague.

Pre-fab houses are already available.

Why put all that extra folding hardware on there for a permanent building?

OK, it looks kind of cool for a moment while it unfolds, but that would be a very expensive moment.
