Maybe time for a second opinion from another orthopedic doc?

Sometimes another set of eyes is a good idea....

The implications weren't about the doctor, more about the severity of the fractures. They seemed quite impressed with the work the surgeon did.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

What does it mean when you show up at your therapy session, and the therapist is showing your x-rays to other therapists who are making comments like "that is messed up", and then they are all amazed at seeing me waggle the tip of the finger?
It means you're making new friends!

...seriously though, how's it coming?
Not quite as fun as it was the first couple of days after the cast came off. At least then I could chase Luke around the house with my Frankenfinger and gross him out. Now, he's used to the sutures and they aren't as red around the edges.

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Sounds like you're making good progress, especially considering the type of injury. Glad you could have a little fun at your kiddo's expense. That's the best part of parenthood!

oops...totally misinterpreted what you were saying....in any event, congratulations on having selected a good surgeon and here's to your continued recovery!

Yeah, a "hey, look at this" can be either very good or very bad.

If they're impressed with progress, I'd opt for the former.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Does that include the extended warranty?

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Arthritis, the finger won't be the same. I will play piano at the same (sub mediocre) level, and alto saxophone at the same level as I used to, but tenor is suffering. The spread and release necessary is too large and I am in pain afterward. I can bend the finger into a 180 degree curve, but can't go farther without a heating pad and stretches first.

If it was messed up as badly as it sounds, some loss of range of motion and some arthritis isn't a horrible outcome. And who knows, time and therapy sometimes change things...
