If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
You will be taking the Vicodin (or Norco or whatever brand they are calling it - same drugs) for maybe a week? You have zero chance of developing any sort of habit. Srsly.

Luke's Dad, glad that things went as well as can be expected. Here is to hoping for a quick recovery. You will be back playing football quite soon, I am sure!!!!

(and I second the comments about Jon, Rainman, Brenda, and Aqua, and the way that they all handled their surgeries.)

Heh, yeah, 2017 was quite a trip. Went from never having had surgery to having four surgical procedures done in a long OR session in March, and topped it off in the fall with yet another surgery.

The first one (in March) has a recovery period of at least a full year, so I'm multitasking my recovery periods. Wimmenz are really good at the multitasking.

Still, Jon and Rainman are my surgical heroes. They've gone through far more, and with great attitudes. And it wasn't just from the drugs. :) Hugs to both you guys. I don't know how you do it. I'm still not 100% back to normal.

Oh, and LD, take your pain meds as prescribed, and stay ahead of the pain. You'll be easier to live with that way. :)

Taking the cast off tomorrow, then I'll be wearing a splint for 4 weeks or so. Take the last pain pill in 25 minutes.

I'm fine. Turns out that the used the pins instead of the plates because the finger was jacked up enough that there wasn't any way to attach the plate, so he had to improvise. The recovery is going to be more of an adventure than I thought.

Well, that doesn't sound good. How long might this recovery take?

Had good range of movement at the PT yesterday, within the range they want it moved. The therapist actually got concerned that if I kept doing the exercises, I might put too much stress on the areas they want immobilized. So I got the wonderfully precise instructions of "do these exercises, but not too hard."

That's not bad. I'm sure it won't be fun, but it's not six months or a year. And just think how special you can be in the TSA lines.

Minnesooootans tend to think in terms of 'it could be worse', which doesn't always help other people from different cultural backgrounds. :lol2:

What does it mean when you show up at your therapy session, and the therapist is showing your x-rays to other therapists who are making comments like "that is messed up", and then they are all amazed at seeing me waggle the tip of the finger?

Maybe time for a second opinion from another orthopedic doc?
