Bringing the concert to you

HOLY CARP!!!
My mother wanted to give us concert tickets for the family as a present. There wasn't really anything
upcoming that would be very suitable for the whole family (a 3h evening concert is not something
you want to visit with three kids).

So I organized something else. I recently attended a concert of piano students about to graduate at a conservatory, and
one of them was really exceptional. Now I've booked her to give a concert at our home. It isn't more
expensive than concert tickets for the family, and I get to choose the program :woot:

I'll maybe record the whole thing.

When I heard her play, she played (together with another guy) a two piano version of Brahms 2nd piano concerto (she played the solo part), and "La Campanella". I definitely want to hear her "La Campanella" again. I hope I'll agree with her on a nice set of shorter pieces. She said that she would be happy to learn new repertoire for that concert, but given the little money she gets I'll try to select from things she already has in her fingers.

For encores I was thinking of a live video feed to New York for Jon's Chopin-Stockhausen Passacaglia.

That's really cool, Klaus.

Is there anything for piano and kazoo duet that you guys can get ready?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

Given the way acetaminophen and alcohol donít mix, I havenít kept a bottle of Tylenol anywhere in the house for years.

I'm actually working on a solo kazoo transcription of the Bach Chaconne for the left cheek only; maybe it will be ready by then.

Better do the kazoo thing or your kids will never let you live this concert down. If you don't believe me, tell them they can each bring one special friend and see what their response is. :lol2:

A couple of neighbours (including their kids) will also join the concert. It's a pity the piano room is so small.

But if it goes well I'm considering to turn this into a recurring event :)

Concert takes place next Sunday.

No, she brings a colleague of hers. I will certainly not touch a key during the event. You can't serve people a Mouton Rothschild and then mix in a $1.99 wine from the discounter.

I would love to do that just to see if people can tell the difference, and if they do, whether they would say anything or just politely go along.

So, Klaus, do mix your own playing into the performance.

That's a very thoughtful program, imo. Kids will really appreciate those choices. Well, adults too.

Klaus, that really is fantastic!

Hope you can "pass the hat" even more. Those young musicians can use the spare change.

Wonderful idea! House concerts are becoming more popular here in Minnesoooooooota. We have friends who sponsor a full afternoon of a live band at their rural property. It's a large event. They have 13 children, and they do this with another family as sponsors, so it's not more expensive than buying tickets.

Great idea! Good job. Your kids will love this. You'll be the coolest parents in the neighborhood!
