LL Cool J? Lionel Richie? Gloria Estefan? Really?

Norman Lear I get. The dancer I get. Gloria Estefan I guess I can get behind for her courage in overcoming her injury.

But the rest I understand they were influential, but this honor?

Good point but...what's the standard?

I remember watching Led Zeppelin being honored (loved, loved, the Stairway to Heaven version done by Heart). Kinda neat watching Jimmy Page getting all teary-eyed.

Is there a line to be drawn? Where is it?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I suppose I should look at the criteria.

Not really. IMO anyway. I was never that big a fan, although I concede they progressed interestingly.

I suppose by my standards they might have a hard time picking honorees.

Sorry you missed out and perhaps Barbra Streisand is more to your taste. :lol2:

But that said Led Zeppelin sold almost twice as many albums as her.

Oh, I did not miss out at all. I just saw them as one great band among many. I always appreciate a band that develops rather than continuously rehashing their first album.

And it doesn't hurt to publicly reject Trumpism.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Lionel Ritchie used to tell about what happened to him at an Alabama Mercedes dealer after he had gotten his very first royalty check. He walked into the dealership intending to buy, but the salesman told him to get out because no n****r could afford a Mercedes anyway, and he wasn't going to waste his time on one... So Ritchie then went to a dealer in Atlanta, I believe.. anyway, he bought I think it was 5 Mercedes. I tell that story to make the point that as hard as it might be to believe, Ritchie was one of the first black artists to be accepted by "white" audiences. I imagine that's why he would qualify as having made contributions to American culture through the performing arts. Gloria Estafan was one of the first latino influences.

LL Cool J..... is guilty of taking rap mainstream and totally f*cking up music..... :D
