Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

We saw it yesterday. Here in Lima. A couple of thoughts with no spoilers:

- You sort of had to laugh at the attempt to spoon feed the message that matriarchal caring and wisdom beats toxic masculinity, all while male and female alike are constantly killing bad guys with light sabers. It’s like they were throwing a bone to the feminists while hoping they don’t think it through too much.

- I agree with Hamil that what they did to Luke was kind of sad.

- They did too good of a job making Kylo Ren unlikeable.

- Overall it was enjoyable, though.

I realized as we were leaving that I was almost exactly my sons age when I saw the original in the theater. Within a couple of months. That was pretty cool, as this is the first one he’s seen in the theater.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Isn’t this a requirement now ? Nobody could take film seriously that said boys good girls bad.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Within the confines of it being a Star Wars movie, it is a very good, very entertaining production. Never get bored despite the length.

I saw it a few days ago and i found it quite fun though nothing special, my walking out of the cinema feeling was probably 3-3.5/5 but as i've had time to think about it a bit more i've grown more annoyed with it. I disagree with Ax (hah first time maybe), i think as a movie it's ok, but as a star wars movie it's a let down.

Mostly because it doesn't make any sense in the context of the previous movies. (I was waiting for this movie to see if the questions the force awakens posed had coherent answers.... and no... no they don't).

What specifically annoyed me? (don't read this if you haven't seen the film. Also don't read this if you really enjoyed the film because there is a chance i'll ruin it for you)

After the original Star Wars run, there was a good bit of fiction written in the Star Wars universe. Some of the storylines were pretty good. I've often wondered why Disney didn't use some of what was already there, when they took over the franchise?

I saw the movie and thought it was "okay". I like Star Wars, and I thought this was maybe better than #7, but overall, maybe 3 stars out of 4 stars. Moonbat has a lot of good comments.

Actually watched Rogue One this evening, and really like that movie.

I agree with everything Moonbat said, including the fact that I originall6 walked out thinking "meh", but the more I thought about it, the worse it got.

My expectations walking in based on the spoiler free reviews (both professional and fanbois) was that it was going to be a very well done movie as far as movie making goes, with some new and daring concepts put forth regarding the mythology of the Star Wars universe. These concepts were welcomed by the critics, and reviled by the fanbois.

What I saw was a very poorly made movie (pretty effects, but the rest wasn't very good) that continually ripped off the originals, while preached at me that White Men are evil and conniving bastards, and even when they overcome their baser instincts, their own machismo and need to be the center of attention and action brings disaster on those around them. Men of color are better, though, and women...Women light the darkness and are everything that is good and light in creation. Especially if they have British Accents, and lowly white men should never question their judgement.

As for the mythology, what changed? A tree and some books that nobody knew existed until this movie were destroyed? We discovered that a Jedi can have moments of weakness, fear, and doubt and can succumb to them? We've seen Luke do so multiple times in the past...

This is how a space battle is done.

Using the lack of gravity to orient your ship.
Wearing suits that will keep you alive if the hull is breached by projectile weapons.
Fixing things in zero-g is a bitch, especially when you're not strapped down and the ship accelerates.

About that ... with no air air (friction) to slow down the debris, the debris should have caused a lot more havoc.

Thanks for the honest reviews (read the spoiler alerts even though I haven't seen the movie). I hate, hate, hated The Force Awakens. My feeling is that the story was completed with Return of the Jedi, and any future movies should be new stories with new characters.

Which is why I loved Rogue One; and unless the movie is another one off like Rogue One, I'm not at all interested in any new Star Wars.

Like Jolly asked, why didn't they use any of the hundreds of stories already written? Oh. and I'm hearing bad things about that Han Solo movie.

We saw two movies over the Christmas break, and even my 15 year old son agrees that Jumanji kicked The Last Jedi's ass.
