As I continue to geek out over Medieval England and Vikings I find myself looking for good dramas related to those periods.

I see that "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix has gotten good reviews, and has been renewed for a third season.

The Cast:

Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred of Bebbanburg
David Dawson as King Alfred
Tobias Santelmann as Ragnar the Younger
Emily Cox as Brida
Adrian Bower as Leofric (season 1)
Thomas W. Gabrielsson as Guthrum[11] (season 1)
Simon Kunz as Odda the Elder (seasons 1–2)
Harry McEntire as Aethelwold
Rune Temte as Ubba
Peter Gantzler as Earl Ragnar
Henrik Lundström as Rollo
Marc Rissmann as Tekil
Christopher Sciueref as Jonis
Erik Madsen as Fiske
Jóhannes Haukur as Sverri
Oengus MacNamara as Bjorn

Looks like it might be fun.

Anyone watch it?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

I watched a few episodes of the first season and liked it. Good story.

OK - I'm three episodes into it, and it's really, really, good.

Since I'm about ⅔ of the way through a course on Medieval England, many of the names are familiar, and, like Vikings, it takes some liberties with fictional characters, but the overall arc is the same.

Alfred the Great comes off as a pretty interesting character, even though he's not the protagonist.

Update: Finished the first season.

Most watchable.

Yeah, there are some throwaway characters (wife(s) of the protagonist). The protagonist is fictional. The setting is accurate, and they get a lot of the details right (like the conversion of the Viking Danish king to Christianity).

Blood, gore, battles, politics, wimmenz, religion.

Yup. Got it all.

If you're looking for some light reading, Bernard Cornwall's Saxon series might interest. It's set in Alfred's England.

Cornwall is usually decently historically accurate.

“The Last Kingdom” is based on the Cornwall Saxon series. The first season covers the first two books, more or less.

Yeah, something I ate disagreed with me, and I've been to the privy several times this AM.
