With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!

Shut 'em down.

Keep draining.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Yep. If the news can't report accurately, and keeps purposely reporting bullsh!t, then yes, there should be repercussions for that. This is NOT what the founding fathers had in mind when they hammered out "freedom of the press."

How do you all know that NBC is making **** up and Trump is the paragon of truth? At best this is he said, she said. (I mean just yesterday Trump was straight up caught in a lie when NYT released the Corker audio)

How can you in any way countenance thinking about removing press protections?

Also - NBC as an entity doesn't have a broadcast license. As usual, Trump's grasp of the facts is tenuous at best.

If the news can't report accurately, ...
Who gets to decide whether the news report accurately?

Sorry, if they can't report the Truth, they don't need to have an over the air bandwidth. If they wanna play Fox or CNN, put them on cable and let people pay for it.

The suggestion that the government should revoke media broadcast rights based on content.

Precedent here is so far only death and obscenity as far as Iíve read. So this would be an addition incursion.

Here's the standard outlined in an FCC guidebook:

https://www.fcc.gov/sites/default/files/public-and-broadcasting.pdf

Quote:

News Distortion. The Commission often receives complaints concerning broadcast journalism,
such as allegations that stations have aired inaccurate or one-sided news reports or comments,
covered stories inadequately, or overly dramatized the events that they cover. For the reasons
noted above, the Commission generally will not intervene in such cases because it would be
inconsistent with the First Amendment to replace the journalistic judgment of licensees with our
own. However, as public trustees, broadcast licensees may not intentionally distort the news: the
FCC has stated that ďrigging or slanting the news is a most heinous act against the public
interest.Ē The Commission will investigate a station for news distortion if it receives documented
evidence of such rigging or slanting, such as testimony or other documentation, from individuals
with direct personal knowledge that a licensee or its management engaged in the intentional
falsification of the news. Of particular concern would be evidence of the direction to employees
from station management to falsify the news. However, absent such a compelling showing, the
Commission will not intervene. For additional information about news distortion, see
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/journalism.html.

Also - from your link Jolly - very interesting - the Judge Kozinski quote is instructive:

Quote:

...It doesnít matter whether we think that such lies are despicable or cause more harm than good. An important aspect of personal autonomy is the right to shape oneís public and private persona by choosing when to tell the truth about oneself, when to conceal and when to deceive. Of course, lies are often disbelieved or discovered, and that too is part of the pull and tug of social intercourse. But itís critical to leave such interactions in private hands, so that we can make choices about who we are.

How can you develop a reputation as a straight shooter if lying is not an option? Even if untruthful speech were not valuable for its own sake, its protection is clearly required to give breathing room to truthful self-expression, which is unequivocally protected by the First Amendment. Americans tell somewhere between two and fifty lies each day. If all untruthful speech is unprotected, as the dissenters claim, we could all be made into criminals, depending on which lies those making the laws find offensive. And we would have to censor our speech to avoid the risk of prosecution for saying something that turns out to be false. The First Amendment does not tolerate giving the government such power.

Libel is a different beast though
