I'd like to think the nfl protests are too stupid even for normal people. In my younger years when I saw stupid social sh!t I assumed people were saying the "right" things but actually knew better. But now I'm coming to terms slowly with the fact that human thought, especially as it applies to social issues of the day, is mostly programming. So they really do "think" what they say, for whatever definition of "thought" that is. I mean, they do feel feelings based on these thoughts. I mean, it's all real, to them. Luckily, the social issues of the day don't actually come up much in practice. So they can think their stupid thoughts and feel their stupid feelings and it's business as usual. But boy oh boy and I comfortable in my current dismissal of the whole mess, as a sort of mass hysteria. |

Btw, Prager and Adam Carolla do a podcast together. I haven't listened but I assume it's pretty good. I'm not surprised that he and Carolla get along pretty well. |

Maybe. But then there's this: "If you want someone to see an issue rationally, you just show them the facts, right? No one can refute a fact. Well, brain imaging and psychological studies are showing that, society wide, we may be on the wrong path by holding evidence up as an Ace card. Neuroscientist Tali Sharot and her colleagues have proven that reading the same set of facts polarizes groups of people even further, because of our in-built confirmation biases -- something we all fall prey to, equally. In fact, Sharot cites research from Yale University that disproves the idea that the social divisions we are experiencing right now -- over climate change, gun control, or vaccines -- are somehow the result of an intelligence gap: smart people are just as illogical, and what's more, they are even more skilled at skewing data to align with their beliefs."From a review of The Influential Mind: What the Brain Reveals About Our Power to Change Others, by Tali Sharot. |

The key is not to be tribal about things. Of course there are tons of smart, tribal people. I was disappointed recently to see that Bill Gates' wife came out unequivocally against the google memo. Something about how it sets society back and blah blah blah. Well I suppose Google's response said it all. But I wanted to think that that was social coercion. Melinda's response was entirely her choice. |

Even more, to determine beyond a reasonable doubt that you're not being tribal when you aver something. I mean, if it's true that there's nothing new It's very discouraging. |

Hey, Horace. Fiddling around on the Net, I found this and thought of yours above: ------------ Lifeless Cold Eyes Now I can see them Millions of people lined up along the streets with only one thought Slaves of their image and prestige They are full of hate and grudge Sons of this artificial world Ready to surrender to compromises like robots without reason Minds burned by mental terrorism victims of illusion People who is prophet of false ideals thirsted for power People who takes refuge in wrong heavens to find new dimensions The great volcano erupts… NONSENSE Snakes are crossing… THE STREET I bury my face in… MY HANDS I DON’T WANNA SEE I don’t wanna see!!! How different is your world How far we are We walk on parallel streets Without any junction Your eyes perceives images Wholly different to mine In your mind you have thought that I refuse We look each other Lifeless cold eyes WE LOOK EACH OTHER LIFELESS COLD EYES |
