Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Cool! Who's performing?

I saw Beethoven's 9th symphony live only once, with the Gürzenich orchestra and James Conlon in Cologne.

I got tired of him after the third. There's only so much Judge Reinhold that I can take.

Wow. Only once?

I think I'm up to about 4 now, starting with Solti and the CSO back in the early 1970s. Martti Talvela was the bass. I remember when he walked past me in the lobby before the concert. The man was yuge.

Found it!

, then to the main event.

A sing-along?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Well, you are 4 times older than me, hence it's only fair that you saw it that often.

More seriously, the 9th isn't really my favorite Beethoven symphony. I'd actually prefer any other odd-numbered LvB symphony.

Well, that's not quite true. I do love the first three movements of the 9th a lot. It's just that last movement. That "Freude schöner Gotterfunken" theme... it's so naive and cheesy...

Make sure you bring your smartphone along. Beethoven's 9th Symphony is very long and you might get bored at places. The smartphone can keep you entertained during those boring parts. Enjoy!

It was great 😀 some critiques, of course. I thought the second mvt was a hair too slow, and the cutoffs could have been crisper.

It was the Charlotte SO, Christopher Warren-Green conducting.
And how are you today?

How was dinner?
Delicious. I had champagne and lobster. He had a merlot and a dry-aged NY strip. Mashed potatoes and asparagus to share. Garlic shrimp starter.

I got the most expensive item on the menu. So he knows I'm worth it. (Paraphrase from the show The Office)

A good black-tie night, but I remember why I don't dress up often - I dislike heels, and putting makeup on can be frustrating and tedious.
