Goodell released a statement saying Trump’s words were divisive:

Got me thinking back to the inauguration- is Trump a dividing or uniting force? Is he trying? Is it important? Does the media make it impossible?

Trump is pretty good at uniting people the media considers inferior.

I don't think Mr. Goodell likes deplorables.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I think it's impossible to track in any realistic manner how divided or united our culture is.

Pop culture however is more united than ever in its hatred of Donald Trump, so the one effect I've seen with my very own eyes indicates to me that he is a Uniter.

I frequent a fair bit of NFL and other sport communities online.

There’s always been “side topics” and “coffee rooms” :)

But in general - the discussion has been pretty apolotical. Until recently.

It feel like all aspects of American life are being pervaded by political divisions.

I checked my favorite Packers forum for discussion on this - nothing. Then I searched google for other packers forums - found no discussion of this there either. Was a little surprised. I probably missed something.

Who was the last uniter? It's a word often used but I have a hard time remembering the last uniter.

It's really astonishing that after 8 years of Obama's social healing, our race relations are, as so earnestly reported by our media, so terrible.

It's almost like the whole fvcking concept is whatever we want it to be, because it's undefinable and unmeasurable. With several hundred million people in this country, it's inevitable that our one great source of truth: ANECDOTE!!, will be present in sufficient quantities to prove, with that perfect evidence, that race relations are exactly as we want them to be, at any time.

Of course, the most interesting question is, what do we want them to be? But I think many of us might have difficulty being honest about our answer to that question. We should probably have a dialogue.

We should probably have a dialogue.

This morning I talked to a man who had skin a different color than mine.

It went OK.

I feel like I have made a contribution.

On second glance, this is on the front page of the forum. This was written in response to the Packers President's comments on Trump's comments. You'll have to excuse the embarrassing writing quality. I think this guy probably shut down discussion of this on his forum. He rules with an iron fist over there. (I no longer post or read there after my year-long ban a few years ago.)

PackerChatters response to Mark Murphy's and the Green Bay Packers Statement

I am deeply concerned about your response Mr. Murphy as it brings in political rhetoric into Sports...just like a sheep following on Mr. Goodells heals. How sad.

I've been a fan of the Packers since grade school which was in the 1950's. My friends and I lived on the East side blocks from old City Stadium and we use to follow the banks of the east river on Sunday's and sneak in under the fence to see the game and get glimpses of our hero's. Back then you see it was 'sports' and something we wanted to maybe do in our future.

I remember playing football in our back yards or playgrounds. I used to be sometimes Jim Taylor or Paul Hornung or Tobin Rote or Veryl Switzer or Bobby Dillion...you get the drift. They and more were OUR heros.

I remember also when the Packers wanted to build the new City Stadium and the Packers were out soliciting for people to buy season tickets to help support. My dad bought tickets of which we still have 4 today.

I also remember Jerry Kramer and Doug Hart who used to come up to our cottage in northern Wisconsin after a Fall game to go bow and arrow hunting for whitetail deer.

Those were all good memories.

By wife Betty's dad was Phil Bengtson...I trust you've heard of him. He and Vince would be appalled at what is going on nowdays and frankly Lombardi would never put up with this crap.

In conclusion, now I am wondering why!!! Are our memories and support of OUR Team going to be tainted because player politics are going to be OK with the NFL? Who is running this League?

I started a small website back in 1996, PackerChatters.com, to honor our Green Bay Packers. The site is still going strong but I'm afraid I may shut it down because of your obvious support for some players disrespect for our flag and Country.

I don't expect to hear back as your statement is quite clear.

Here's the Packers' statement he was responding to:

Quote:

It's unfortunate that the President decided to use his immense platform to make divisive and offensive statements about our players and the NFL. We strongly believe that players are leaders in our communities and positive influences. They have achieved their positions through tremendous work and dedication and should be celebrated for their success and positive impact. We believe it is important to support any of our players who choose to peacefully express themselves with the hope of change for good. As Americans, we are fortunate to be able to speak openly and freely."

It appears that for the first time in my memory, the customer is not right. Because of our now firmly entrenched tyranny of the politically correct minority.

I wonder what the NFL is afraid of.

The owners are simply trying to protect their revenue streams, it makes great business sense. They are not liberals.

I'm not sure about "great business sense". They are between a rock and a hard place here. There is no good option for them. The best sense is of course to say as little as possible without taking flak for saying too little. Which I suppose is how almost everybody involved is approaching it, from their own perspectives.

Except Trump.
