That article is a hot mess. Grammatical errors in the URL, and a dogs breakfast of BS in the body of the article.

Not all articles are worth posting. Counting on you, dude. You're my go-to guy for all things Republican.

While you're here, how does your daughter feel about the new Republican Sect'y of Edication and her conviction that public school teachers are no more than leeches sucking the system dry? Trump's IQ is too high for him to be a democrat.
LOL
All business savvy aside, I’ve seen no evidence of a high IQ, nor does he share most of the traits common to folks with high IQs.

This is not to say the dems (or any other group) have high IQs, I tend to shy away from thinking that the people who agree with me are smart while those who don’t are idiots. It seems counterproductive.

There are pretty specific patterns surrounding those with high IQs though, and I don’t see those in Señor Trump.

You see what you want to see. The IQ reference was a joke - having a high IQ is no guarantee the person has any sense, and nobody with any sense would be a democrat today.

Hell, even John F Kennedy wouldn't want to be a democrat today.

We agree on most of that, I think.
I’d go a step further and say that the Democrats and Republicans, both, of yesteryear wouldn’t recognize their parties today.

Nobody even attempts to relate their humanity to the humanity of those from even just a couple generations before. They only know that they can't understand, can't relate, and would never be that.

Meanwhile, normal humans have been responsible for all of grotesque, unconscionable human history. But gosh knows, none of us are like them.

I agree, though we do evolve.
Humanity has made great strides in the last several hundred years, and it’s much safer to be a human now than it was not that long ago.

I’m hoping we keep evolving to the point where the statement “none of us are like them” will be true.

Evolve? You mean our social programming is changing? Our received ideas are morphing? Sure. There's that. But we're not evolving in the genetic sense, at least not in any way I'm aware of.

I think we’re evolving in all of those senses, including genetic.

There’s no doubt that modern man is different from earlier hominids of the homosapiens species.

For social programming and societal norms to change, so to, do attitudes.
We view things differently now than we did a couple thousand years ago. Sure, some of that may be epogenetics, some might be genetics in the traditional sense, and some may be purely emotional - but it’s real nonetheless I think.

If “evolution” is the wrong word for that, I’m open to something else, but I still hope we keep moving as we are now - away from war and aggressive resolution to conflict, and toward understanding and inclusiveness.

I know - I grew up in Boulder - I may just be a dirty hippy in disguise.

Well if you think we're evolving in a genetic sense then you should start thinking about which forces are causing that evolution, within the context of the forces which caused our evolution into homo sapiens. Or maybe just think about how dog breeds evolve. That's a simpler case. Generally it involves selection about who breeds. However that selection may occur.

Do breeding is an example of artificial selection.
While we’re certainly aware of our breeding, we’re still largely beholden to natural selection, insofar as Eugenics aren’t yet a fad.

Even if I’m wrong, however - something like 98% of all species that have ever existed are extinct.
If we’re doing it wrong, it’s a self-correcting problem and will be remedied at some point.

You think the human species is currently engaged in genetic evolution via natural selection?

Which characteristics is nature selecting for?

Just curious what you think on this matter.

Well our test tube is the planet earth. It'll get erased at some point, and us along with it, unless we get off this planet. We're not getting off this planet. The technology required to do so is way beyond the technology which could destroy us. Our drive to survive as a species is nothing compared to each of our drives to dominate as our tribe. And our tribalism will destroy us. We'll give it a good go though, and lots of good and very smart people will have done their best.

Nature doesn’t select any particular characteristics as far as I know.

The species who stay alive, stay alive - and have babies.

Though, sometimes Man introduces artificial selection as well (ex: Haki crab), so maybe I’m totally full of it.

I agree with the inputs - I’m hoping for a different output I guess.

I think we eventually leave this rock before the sun goes Red Giant and consumes us (assuming we haven’t destroyed ourselves first).

If we do destroy ourselves, oh well.

While you're here, how does your daughter feel about the new Republican Sect'y of Edication and her conviction that public school teachers are no more than leeches sucking the system dry? That the solution is a system of private (Christian) schools where the teachers basically volunteer their time? I'll bet she has opinion.
Ah, didn't care to address the central theme of the piece, did you?

You blather about me, grammer and my daughter, but you kinda forget the initial premise of whether a senator may, or may not be changing parties.

Interesting.

I probably don't agree with you on things, but wows -- kinda over the top in the above?
Change a word here and there, and it's like bigoted rage, having nothing to do with either DeVos or education.

Maybe I read it wrong and missed your intent. Perhaps you were just trying to poke Jolly, hurt his feelings, or make him react by insinuating something about his daughter, one way or another. If so, cheap shot IMO.

Well personally I've always considered school teaching as a profession to be massively overrated. Canonized by a society that really just wants to shift responsibility from parents to "the system".

I mean I actually went through the public school system, as I suspect most of us did.

I mean really? Public school teachers are special people? What?

I'm sure they do their best, just like the rest of us who go to work. But let's lay off the hagiography.

There has always been that kind of stuff on either end of the political spectrum. I think you will have to concede that the Left seems to be more agitated nowadays.

We know more and we have better toys. Beyond that I think our nature hasn't changed all that much. You can find stories in human history from 2500 years ago that have commonality with stories from 100 years ago. You know -- greed, passion, nobility, obsession, dumb, smart, all that.

I find it both reassuring and discomfiting that, based on our history, we can rely on our natures not changing much in the future. We're better off if we can accept that and stop dreaming about developing "better natures" somehow. Hasn't happened yet.

Popeye might have hit that nail on the head when he said, "I yam what I yam".

As for war and aggressive resolution: Sun Tzu wrote in his Art of War, "The greatest victory is that which requires no battle." He wrote that in the 5th century BC. So the option of peaceful resolution isn't all that new, either.
"I shall now begin to speak of purple, which exceeds all the colors that have so far been mentioned both in costliness and in the superiority of its delightful effect." -- Vitruvius, De architectura, 1st century BC.
