My recollection is that London taxis have pretty strict rules. I'm not surprised that Uber has caused a problem like this. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

The issue in London began with the use of GPS. To be licensed as a cab driver in London requires a great deal of study, then testing. It's quite an accomplishment from what I've read, to be officially licensed. Never been to London, but from what I understand quite the challenge in getting to a destination if you simply use a paper map. When GPS then Uber came along, it caused an uproar in the profession, understandably. I'd be pretty upset too, if a gadget came along that took what required years of mastery and turned it into a phone app. I suppose D'Oh and others' would be a lot more knowledgeable than I am regarding Taxi service in London. The issue is simmering here as well. |

"The Knowledge" they call that test. But even before uber the call-for-hire cabbies (black cars) generated a lot of controversy among taxi drivers because they didn't need to take The Knowledge. And they were (gulp) immigrants. Often from Africa, if my experience is representative. Having said all that, I don't know exactly what's behind the Uber decision. Could be political power of the cabbies and black car companies. Could be something else entirely. |
| In my defense, I was left unsupervised. | |
