The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

George, your post starts with a very innacurate statement. Deflategate was far from first. First, the Patriots were busted for stealing defensive playcalls from opponents, as well as sending cameramen into opponents practices and taping. Hundreds of hours of tape sere given to the commissioner who watched them, issued the heaviest penalty in the history of the league, had the tapes destroyed, and has refused to discuss what was on the tapes. Then there were allegations of playbooks being stolen from locker rooms, fire alarms pulled in opponents hotel rooms the night before games, and unusual communication equipment failures for opponents in their stadium. |
| The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it. | |

Yes, Schaefer Stadium and its crew were famous for supporting the team. The lights seemed to fail at just the right time, even for college games which I have seen in person. Then there is the Snow Plow Game against Miami when a convicted burglar on a work release program from MCI-Norfolk at the time of the game cleared the snow to help the Patriots field goal kicker get better footing. The list goes on, it is a great tradition. I was at Schaefer Stadium one Monday Night when Joe Namath came within inches of being sacked by a fan on the field. Howard Cosell and Dandy Don were both plastered in the booth on that memorable night, a fan was stabbed, a police officer assaulted and his gun stolen, and more than 60 people were arrested for drunken brawling. After this game, police began checking fans for alcohol when entering Patriots games. And the Town of Foxboro didn't allow the next Monday Night game for many years. |
