Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
All for it. You don't need an F35 for every mission.

Nor do you need supersonic.

The US could take a lesson from the Russians: durable, survivable, easy to repair and maintain. For so many missions, do we really need a jet aircraft (Scorpion notwithstanding)?

No, you don't. The Scorpion has the disadvantage of costing more than the other LCA competitors and not being able to use unimproved airfields.

It has the advantage of being much faster, has a longer loiter time and is more flexible in what it can carry. It also has upgradeable plug-n-play electronics.

The turboprops it is competing against have a big advantage in that one is based on a trainer already used by the USAF and one of the others has already been tested by the USMC and has been issued by the U.S. to the Afghans (the Brazilian product). The flying armored crop duster is used by Saudi Arabia, I think.

Shame somebody doesn't still make a good rotary engine for the type prop planes they are looking at. A rotary can sustain more battle damage and still fly, although I don't know if it can match the operating costs of a turboprop.

Of course, if we really wanted to do it on the cheap, we could probably pick up some SU-25 Frogfoots for a song. Now, you're talking about an armored pilot cockpit, tank-busting capability and the ability to go supersonic when you shed all the weight off of the wings. And you don't have to have very good runways for them, either.
