The only American world chess champion, although at the moment a second American attempt is at least a possibility, with three yanks in the world top 10.

What followed was sadly somewhat less than heroic, and ultimately rather tragic. At his best, Fischer was an amazing player - he played some truly beautiful games. It seemed sometimes as though chess was though the only place where he could be objective.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

An interesting guy, that is for sure. A friend of mine is a big chess fan; played in a league, etc. From him, he recommended a biography of Bobby Fischer, which I read. It was an interesting read. As you say, a tragic end. :(
