So as not to derail the other thread (though your comment about lampshades does definitely belong in the "purity score" thread), you said you're taking A&P now.

What's the rest of the curriculum like? You mentioned you did (and hated) microbiology.

When do you start doing actual clinical work - like in an OR?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Howdy, George! :) Almost done with A&P. It ends in the first week of October, which sucks. I've enjoyed this class, and I really like the professor. I start clinical rotations in February. In fact, this past week, my Surgical Technology class was devoted to CPR re-certification. I hate CPR classes! Ugh... Anyway, it's over. I finished Algebra with an A, a couple of weeks ago. (w00t!)

Every Wednesday, I'm in the lab from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., and the rest of the time, I have Surgical Case Management and Introduction to Surgical Technology. I've had Medical Terminology and A&P - One segued into the other.

I think Surg. Case Management ends in October, as well. I have a full course list, at home. I'll hunt for it and post it up, when I get a minute. :)

No... I only like patients who are anesthetized. Honestly, I even applied for the County Coroner's Assistant, when a job opening posted. :lol2: I don't like patients who talk.

I've known a lot of good OR nurses. Spent their entire career there.

So have I, of course.

But, when it comes to being an assistant in the OR, standing at the table, helping the surgeon, a nursing degree is unnecessary and probably mis-directed. We've had many nurses that we've had to train, for months and months, so that they would be capable of working shoulder-to-shoulder with the surgeon. The techs, OTOH, come out well-trained out of the box.

Now, when it comes to doing the paperwork, passing meds, taking care of the patient pre-op, etc - in other words, all the nursing stuff that happens in the OR - yeah, you need an RN.

Yep. Circulating nurse is always an RN, and always appreciated.

Yes, Ethics, Psych, and Sociology are going to be FUN!

All of the surgery centers and hospitals in the entire San Joaquin Valley hire straight out of my program. There's one other school, a couple hundred miles away, in Fresno, who offers this same program. No one else. Not even the local colleges.

There was a Surgical Tech out of my same program, who was hired by the Mayo Clinic.

You're not thinking of moving, are you? Surely there are jobs in your area.

LOL! No... I'm staying here, for now. (Although, there is a great demand for CST's in Honolulu and Nashville) :D

Don't know about Hawaii, never been there.

Nashville is a nice town. Actually has four seasons, to boot...

I worked there for a while. Hawaii doesn't have the four seasons. As far as weather is concerned they basically have only 2. A day with some wind and a day without much wind. Other than that, as far as I could tell, all the days were about the same.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Down in San Luis Obispo, they are looking for CST's, too. The coast is mighty attractive... Then again, there's a higher cost of living, too. Just kickin' around all of the options. :) I really loved Tennessee, too.
