https://theconversation.com/public-libraries-can-literally-serve-as-a-shelter-from-the-storm-83070 U.S. public libraries often transform into shelters during emergencies. [The author] teamed up with three graduate students to create a youth services toolkit to help librarians pitch in during emergencies. It will soon be available in a digital format at the Library of Michigan’s Youth Library Services website. |

Makes sense. Our new space at the library will be part of such a plan - the wildfire evacuations elsewhere in the province have resulted in our municipality pulling up it's socks and getting an emergency plan in place. The library is definitely in the picture. As for the more day to day shelter idea, I believe that's what public libraries have always been; seems like it's just become more noticed recently. Not unusual to have people waiting for us to open, and be the last to leave. Edited by sue, Aug 31 2017, 09:17 AM.
