Well, none of my friends over there have said anything about it, I see nothing in the Houston news, BLM's twitter account has nothing and there is nothing about any relief efforts written anywhere on their website. So, give me anything that says they are helping out. Anything. |

Sure, how about this? Blacks are going to assist without mention of their affiliation with BLM because politics has nothing to do with contributing to rescue efforts. |

You know, that's not the same song I was hearing the other day, when some white guy with a Confederate flag painted on his airboat rudder was rescuing people... |

Geezus, that's not even responsive to your original post. In fact, it doesn't even make sense. Never mind. I only wanted to point out that your premise that BLM wasn't helping in Texas was false. Edited by Catseye3, Aug 31 2017, 05:04 AM.

1. Ok, my original post is saying that BLM needs to step up and help the people of Houston, if black lives really do matter. Lots of black folks in those shelters needing all types of things. Now, I know that BLM is a racist organization, or they would be more along the lines of all lives matter, but I'm working with what I've got to work with. 2. They aren't doing ANYTHING. Now, maybe they will. I've got my doubts. The last thing on the Houston chapter's website is about a political rally on 8/18. 3. I asked you to give me any shred of hope they were providing relief as an organization. You didn't, but you did say that black people were going to assist as individuals without resorting to politics. I hope they do. 4. Perhaps you weren't following the other day when some people excoriated a man for having a Confederate flag painted on his boat as he was rescuing people from the flood waters. Apparently, at that time, many thought politics were very important, even if they had to drown while proving a point. |

No, that would be a waste of my time. You're not interested in the truth; you never are. You're interested in prevailing, in perpetually solidifying your beliefs. So fine, believe what you want. If it suits you to believe that no black person affiliated with BLM is down there helping out, go ahead. |

How can I? I don't know how many BLM people are in Texas right now. It could be zero, it could be 1,000, it could be three zillion. That wasn't the point. Your inference was that since there was no public mention anywhere of BLM participation, that had to mean there wasn't any. Like no member of BLM could go to Texas without announcing it on some public site, like it's a physical impossibility. Like his car wouldn't start unless he told of his plans to go to Texas. Maybe they are there, maybe they aren't. But using the lack of any mention of it on social media or wherever as proof that there is no BLM assistance is absurd. |

And another thing...I posted about the churches in Houston that stepped up and provided whatever they could in terms of refuge, food, clothing and general assistance. Guess what, sir? A LOT of those churches were majority black churches. And I kinda doubt they were checking skin color as they welcomed people into the shelter their buildings could provide and their members and other volunteers did what they could. In a time when black lives and all lives mattered a lot, those people stepped up and are to be applauded for it. |

Social media is how things are done nowadays. If BLM was doing anything official, it's going to be somewhere, but I can't find anything. Not on a national level, not on a regional level, not on a local level. |

And to give them credit...The only mention of BLM in the news or social media is about BLM thugs shooting at rescuers. That has been proven false. |

I don't think BLM is an organization per se. It's just something people write on protest signs. |

Horace - thanks. I was going to ask the question as if the Black Lives Matter was a formal organization. I did not think so, it is more like Horace says. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

BLM is more of a local chapter organization (they have 30 or more local chapters, Houston being one of them) with a somewhat national focus coming from the West Coast. As far as I can ascertain, some of those chapters have 501c3 status, some do not. Since according to multiple surveys, a majority of the black public supports BLM, I just found it odd, that when BLM has the opportunity to send a really strong message that black lives really do matter, they are nowhere to be found. This does not surprise me. I witnessed first hand the racial divisiveness BLM can bring to a community after the shooting of Alton Sterling. Whatever one's opinion about that shooting, the fact remains that many people down here felt this way after the flooding of Baton Rouge: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/aug/21/black-lives-matter-takes-heat-louisiana-flood-reli/ To be fair, BLM did show up in Baton Rouge. A few of the national guys flew to Baton Rouge in September, handed out a few hot meals and salved their conscience. Since Mr. Soros had given them $33M, it would have been nice if they could have done a bit more, but, it is their money. Of course, they may have a bit less if this gentleman wins his suit: http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/09/us/lawsuit-black-lives-matter-baton-rouge/index.html I am hoping for a bit better response in Houston, than in Baton Rouge. If BLM wants to be taken seriously, they certainly need to step up to the plate. |

I remember the news stories after the 2016 massacre of a bunch of cops by a black guy in Dallas. They were doing "journalism" trying to answer the question of whether the shooter was "affiliated with BLM". Their journalistic efforts turned up nothing, so clearly it had nothing to do with BLM. Because they carry cards. The folk who support BLM, the folk who are motivated and moved by BLM's ideas, they carry cards. |

Black skin already gives one remarkable status especially as it relates to social credibility. I believe that for a person of color raised in a decent home who's willing to actually participate in the grind of middle class (or more!) existence, this country is their oyster. |
