If that be the case, why would any shelter take in dogs, knowing it would offend the people they are trying to help? |

Nope. Not gonna argue this one. This the shelter, these the rules. You like or take a hike. OTOH my Muslim friends wouldn't give a **** either way so there is that. Assholes abound in all traditions. I'm cool with that. Just be be prepared to suffer for your convictions. Baptists included, BTW. |

Hmmm....Let me see....A shelter that offends people is ok, but an airboat saving people from death is worthy of condemnation. As for Baptists or any Christian...Persecution is part of the package. Rare and peculiar is how I think the phrase goes... |

Not at all. If you wanna board the boat than hop on in. Everyone knows what they're willing to accept and what they're not. Some standards are higher than others. Or maybe they're stupid. We report, you decide. |

Yep. They are going around to places where other agencies know there are people who can't or won't leave, checking on them, making sure they have food and fresh water, etc. Most of these guys bought a crapload of stuff and loaded their boats, on the way to Texas. Water, clothing, MRE's, various other foodstuffs... First aid kits... That sort of thing.

They're needed. Talked to some of my friends just outside Beaumont this morning. No electricity, no water, many of the roads still flooded and impassable. Just a general mess.... |

Yep. The thing is, they are using these monster bass boats. If it were me, (and honestly, I wish it were), I'd be getting a John boat or a raft, and maybe use a little trolling motor. Some of the guys with the big outboard motors, are having problems when the prop contacts hazards, and spinning the hub and prop. |

You have to wonder why they design those streets with such a shallow draft. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

The best things are the pro-drive and go-devil type motors like the duck hunters use, on an aluminum bateaux (that's a jon boat for you uneducated folks) |

I've seen pictures of people being rescued on to the kind of boats they run in the Everglades - the ones with the big fans on the back. They seem like the perfect sort of boat for the application. Must have been quite an operation to get them in to Texas. They're too wide for regular trailers. |

I'm sure there were several already over there, as you have duck hunters in that part of the world, plus you have the Texas and Louisiana wildlife departments. But guys also trailer them all the time. Used to see a lot more of them, but some hunting areas now restrict their use. See a lot more of the other two types of motors I mentioned. Also not uncommon to see big aluminum boats over here. I know of a couple of custom builders not too far from the house. Those are usually for commercial fishing, usually in the river or in the Basin. Guys tend to haul those on a 18 foot long utility trailer or longer. You'll see them up to 22 feet long or so. But they still build them narrow enough to trailer without a permit. When you get down around the coast, you see guys building bigger aluminum stuff, usually with cab on it. Those are going to be for all kinds of commercial use. |

Government actually learned some lessons during and after Katrina. Private rescues were actively discouraged during the Katrina event. But it turned out that private individuals were very effective at rescuing people in flooded areas. When the Baton Rouge flooding happened last year, the Cajun Navy (and it really, really a loose knit organization, if you can even call a facebook page an organization) rescued two to three times as many people as the government. It all goes back to the neighbor helping neighbor, local type stuff that works so well. And besides, after all the help that Texas gave Louisiana during Katrina and Rita, anything we can do is never going to be enough to repay their kindness. |
