Bought a bottle of Auchentoshan American Oak single malt today. Good reviews, low price - $40 or so. It's a lowland, so not a peat or smoke bomb. Tried any of their line?

My favorite scotch review:

It’s like fighting a bog monster that is on fire, but suddenly you both pause, look in one another’s eyes and kiss

Another one from some prohibition rye from a friend's grandfather's cellar:

It is ideal for use in a duck blind after a windy day of rain, sleet and snow- and no ducks.

Finally
I've always liked it. I don't remember if I had the American Oak, but it struck me as being a pretty good, not too intense, higher-end, but not overpriced whiskey.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Save a glass for me and I will tell you what I think.

On a related note, I'm home by myself tonight. What whisky pairs best with Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey and Game of Thrones?

Dad's Hat rye. Great stuff.
Just read the backstory. The guy behind it is from the Mon Valley in western PA, same area that I grew up in. It's specifically a Monongahela Rye, meaning no corn. Sounds interesting. I am going to try and track it down.

Did you know all whiskey is gluten free!

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

It's good. All over the place up here.
I cite irreconcilable differences.
