Harvey is punching a hole in the air traffic system, Houston is still busy. CRP is Corpus Christi. ![]() CNN spent the whole day setting up the story about how Mr. Trump is going to do such a terrible job dealing with the hurricane. Apparently Mr. Obama would have done a really swell job. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

If any president is smart these days they forego the old protocol of waiting to be asked and have things staged and ready. |

I have two very close friends in New Braunfels and in Houston that will be affected. One has family in Corpus Christi, but they have headed for Fort Worth. |

On the other hand, they are also saying we haven't had a storm like this since Katrina in 2005. Tyson's statement is utterly stupid. |

CNN's running a story about Texas flags being flown there as a symbol of hope. Nary a second guess about the providence of the flags. Things must be serious. |

I find it incredible that in so many areas, there is still electricity. I would think things would short out somewhere. We have a mild wind, or one of the first rains, and odds are we lose power. Also amazing that in 1 day, areas exceed what we get here in a year in terms of rainfall. And we have a reputation of being wet. |

Looks like a lot of places put their generators in the basement. You'd think they would have learned from Katrina. Edited by Steve Miller, Aug 27 2017, 08:44 PM.

Most big buildings have their physical plants in the basement. Most places with generators have them in the basement or sometimes on ground level. At least the ones I'm familiar with... |

Kind of figured Houston would be bad, once the final track was locked in and the weather guys were saying the storm would squat rather than move. Hurricanes dump water. The saving Grace, is that they dump it as they are moving through. I've seen some that moved slow, but I don't remember one sitting like this one has. A good bit of Houston doesn't drain well. Look at the flooding they've had in the past. And it's only grown into more low-lying areas in recent years. It's going to get worse over there before it gets better. |

So far, according to what I just heard on the news, Harvey has dropped 9 trillion gallons of water. That's amazing. Makes me wonder what 20 trillion gallons would look like, just so I could get my head around how big our national dept is. (but of course I don't really want that much water dumped on the region!) |

True, but if I had something like a hospital in a flood prone area I might think about relocating the generator to the roof. Or perhaps adding one there. |
