I get a panicked call this morning. "The power is out on the Clavinovas. They won't turn on!" "Did you try making sure the power strip is plugged in and turned on?" "Yes." "Is the power indicator lit up on the power strip?" "Yes." "I will have to take a look at it when I get in at 12. By the way, Debra Watson will be coming in to purchase the CVP705. The paperwork is ready and on the table in the blue folder." "No problem, by the way, will you be here at 12? Because I need to leave at 3." "Yes, I will be there at 12."

At 11, I get a text: Bro, are you going to be here at 12? I have to leave at 3?

At 11:30, I get another text: I just sold a CVP705! it was a brand new customer! He sends a picture of the paperwork. It was new paperwork in his handwriting to Debbie Watson.

I arrive at 12. First thing I do is check the powerstrip. It is turned off. I toggle it to on and all the electric pianos turn on. He is amazed. I then show him the paperwork. He slaps his head and says "I thought that was too easy since I couldn't even show the piano (it was one of the Clavinova's he couldn't turn on). He then announces he has to go. I remark that he is scheduled till 3, he replies "but I came in two hours early, at 8". I ask him what time was he scheduled for, and he replies 10. I tell him he was scheduled for 10, because we needed him at 10. Since the store didn't open till 10, all he was doing was wasting time...Then I realized he still wasn't getting it and sent him home.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I hope you sent him home permanently, because he will never be a good salesman.

If he worked for me, the moment he called me "bro" he would have joined the unemployment line.

The thoughtful employer would schedule the new employee for a power strip training seminar.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Does your company do pre employment drug screening?

There are old nuggets of management advice I have been given over the years. One of the best was given to me by one of the best bosses I ever had.

"It's not the people I've fired that have kept me from sleeping at night. It's the ones I should have fired and didn't".

It would be a rare scenario where someone would lose sleep over having fired someone. Out of sight out of mind.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I dunno.

Because of where I worked, it was hard to get canned, but I never liked doing it. I never enjoyed that part of the job.

I'd lose sleep (figuratively) over having to fire someone, but not for having done it. Then it's a relief.

Like breaking up with a chick.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.
