HOLY CARP!!!
since one "our gang" has died.

April 23, 1987 was when my friend Andy died. Since that date, none of the group of people that we hung out with, has died.

Until yesterday morning.

Quote:

On Thursday, July 27th at about 5:30 AM, a fire was reported at 2540 Shopiere Rd in the City of Beloit. A citizen was driving by the residence when smoke was observed coming from the house. The citizen called 911 and then attempted to rescue anyone who may be inside but upon entering through the front door was driven back by smoke. When Beloit Fire arrived they determined that the fire was contained in the basement with smoke filling the first floor. While Fire Department personnel were checking the first floor for occupants they found a 41 year old male with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The fire was contained in the basement and appears to be intentionally set with an accelerant found nearby. The house was initially found secured and no other persons were found in the house. The victim was conveyed to Beloit Hospital where he subsequently died.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office was to serve an eviction notice this morning for 2540 Shopiere Rd.
Through the investigation it was reported that cats and one dog, a pit bull, was supposed to be inside of the residence, but multiple searches of the residence revealed no pets present. The pets were also not observed in the area around the house.
The Beloit Police Department is also looking to interview a male and female who had stopped to assist the citizen who attempted to rescue any occupants and is requesting that they contact the Beloit Police Department regarding this investigation.
Investigation also revealed that the victim owned a 2003 blue Honda four door which has not been located. At this time we do not believe that the person who may have this vehicle is involved in this incident.

Receive a phone call from my friend earlier telling me that it was in fact, our friend, Patrick that had set the fire and then shot himself.

Pat was always a free spirit. His brothers apparently treated him like dirt because he didn't want to join the family business or for other various reasons. He was living in his family home taking care of his mother until recently when they put her in an assisted living center. His brother was in the process of evicting him from the home, and then this happened.

Rest in peace, Pat. We had some good times together in this life.

RIP sounds like exactly what he wanted.

Tragic story.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Thanks guys. Pat, like most of the gang, drifted away over the years and I might have seen him 2 or 3 times during the past 30 years. He was obviously very troubled. We were not close or anything but just someone from the gang of buddies having a good time in my younger days.

We used his parents RV to take a trip (literally and figuratively) to the Pink Floyd concert at Milwaukee County Stadium back in the 80s. Man those were some crazy times.

It's still hard to know one of the "gang" is gone. Sounds like he was in a tough situation, and it's sad to think he felt that this was his only option, or his preferred option.

Hugs to ya, Mark.
