In Liuzhou, China, the architect Stefano Boeri is designing a new district that will be called Forest City, and house 30,000 people, 40,000 trees, and over 1 million plants. In addition to lining the streets, greenery will grow out of every single building, hence the district's name. China is notorious for its polluted air, but Boeri sees Forest City as a small corrective space within the landscape; one that can absorb 35-40% of the C02 produced by a normal urban center. He also doesn't think it's too far-fetched for other architects to mimic his radical approach to green.

be an awful lot of work, keeping those trees in/on the buildings pruned, don't you think? Assuming they would survive.
Nice idea though. Trees are good air cleaners.

I also wonder about the construction needed to support all that weight -- trees plus dirt. Lots of materials, lots of $$$, who could afford to buy the units.

I just expect Forest City to eventually turn into something that looks like today's Ankor Watt. :P
