Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

What's the backstory?
Not sure. But if I had to guess, the slime on the ramp at the waterline broke the tire traction and it started to slide backward. Once the front wheels hit the slime line, it's all she wrote.

Friction is your friend at the boat ramp. As someone commented in the video, if they had put the vehicle in 4 wheel drive, they would have been fine. But when you're sliding backward, it's hard to think that fast.

Lots of idiots commenting on that one, mostly from truly stupid people.

It's not a Z71, so I can't tell if it's 4wd. Most likely, it's 2wd. The rear wheels are locked, so it was in park. Therefore, it had to have slid into the water. I wonder what the commentating internet geniuses would have done to prevent the truck from sliding?

Having been boating for 25 years now, I've seen a lot of stupid $hit at the ramp.

The best one was a couple launching their new boat for the first time. I had launched, tied the boat off and parked the car. Walking back to the boat, the husband handed the rope to the wife and told her to "hold the rope", while he went to the front of the trailer to unhook the boat from the trailer.

As I walked by her, she looked my way and I told her that rope would work better if she attached it to the boat.

Most Chevrolet pickups with 4WD have a logo on the side panel that says 4WD.

I agree with Jolly, that this doesn't seem to have that feature. And it was in park, so even with 4WD, it wouldn't likely have mattered. It's possible no one was even in the vehicle when it started to slide.

Yes, that's a very bad day. Imagine explaining that to your insurance agent and your spouse. Of course, your buddies will all hear of it, too. :lol2:

I'm going to take a guess at what happened...

The wipers were on, then turned themselves off, and the little fog lights on the front were flashing - something they're not designed to do. I think both things were caused by water in the wiring.

But I also noticed that when they stopped pulling the truck for a few moments, and the back tires of the truck were right about half a foot from the edge of the water, the cradles for the boat hull were still a bit out of the water. That and the fact that the truck was in park leads me to this conclusion... He was launching the boat by himself, the boat hadn't lifted off the trailer cradles, so he backed a little further into the water until his rear tires were probably halfway in the water. Nothing unusual about that, that's about where his rear tires should be. BUT - what I think happened was, he put the truck in park, ran around and got in the boat, and with his weight in the boat it still wasn't floating off the cradles, so he started the engine and put it in reverse thinking he would jar the boat loose. Which might or might not have worked, depending on how much lift he had from the water - but in this case I think it wasn't coming loose, and instead of noticing that he had forgotten to check the rope to make sure it wasn't hung up on something, the rope *was* hung on something and he goosed the gas and dragged the truck into the water.

But I might be wrong.

Nope... I watched it again and I am wrong. The cradles were well under water with the truck's rear wheels a good 3 or 4 feet from the water's edge. And this time I noticed the bass boat tied up at the end of the pier.. don't know if that's the boat he launched or not. But the simple fact is this - a Yugo should have been able to pull the empty trailer out of the water. So either he put it in revers and drove his truck into the water, put it in park and swam out, or he pulled the whole mess into the water with his still attached boat.

Either way, he should just give up boating.

I saw this happen at the Colorado River a few years ago.

That one was complicated by the fact the truck had a big camper on it and the boat had not been released from the trailer. The whole rig was under water over the top of the camper.

Allstate wept.
