How ironic. He complains this isn't getting enough attention because of fixation on trivialities but then uses his article to grind every political ax in his entire shed. |

Irony doesn't reside in an artillery shell. The main point of the short comment still stands...While the media is fixated on trivial pursuit, a major conflict with world-wide implications could be brewing. |

But to be realistic, most people in the US do not care a whole lot about foreign affairs. With a country as big and diverse as teh US, most of the focus is domestic. This forum board is unique, and is not the same as the US in total. The interest here is much more wide and encompassing than the normal. For example, I am guessing that if you asked US citizens to name the leaders of Canada and Mexico, less than half would be able to give the correct answer. In regards to the situation Jolly mentions, I just dont think that there is that much interest in the US. It is just too far away and remote. India and Pakistan have been fighting a border war for many years. It is almost never read or heard about. PS Bhutan is a country I would very much like to visit. Not so easy to get a visa, but by limiting the number of people allowed, they can better control and maintain the countryside. PPS Bhutan was the country that came up with term "Gross national happiness index"

It's much more cost effective to cover news without leaving the studio. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

I'd put it at closer to 5-10%. To your point, though, foreign affairs usually interest the public (and the press) only insofar as they can serve as a political football between the tribes here. |
