The usual arguments pro/con minimum raise increase, and the effects. At our local school district, the increase in minimum wage for food services at school buildings, resulted in an increased expenditure in next year's budget of $148,000. That's just for food services, which is a separate budget in operations. And -- that's just because of the rise in minimum wage. That is roughly 2 teachers, in terms of what a $ provides comparatively. Food service employees, as well as other more part-time workers (e.g., bus drivers), often work these jobs because the benefits are very good. The benefits far exceed the lousy pay (medical, dental, vision, wellness program). Unfortunately, the district announced that 11 employees, very few actually in food services, will be terminated to help offset the increased costs in food service. This quote was fun, maybe fake data, and I present it for Ax:
