Geaux Tigers!

That's the cash price for a 2017 Hyundai Sonata SE down here. Less than $15K for a 2017 Elantra. I've been driving a Sonata for the last two years as a work car. It's a bit bigger on the inside than a Camry and has done well. If you need a decent car, want new and don't want to spend much money, you could do a lot worse... |

HOLY CARP!!!
|
I've now owned a Hyundai Santa Fe for two years. The car has some minor quirks, but overall it's a pretty good car and costs only 60% or so of what a BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE with similar configuration would cost. |

I bought my daughter an Elantra when she got out of the Navy. It's a good car for the most part, but I don't like the overall power curve. It shifts too frequently, I guess that's how it achieves high mpg by keeping the rpm's (too) low. My brother leases a Sonata. My opinion -- spend just a bit more for the Sonata. Buy American. Get a BMW or Mercedes. Edited by Rainman, Jun 16 2017, 12:01 PM.

From everything I've heard they're great cars. I rented an Elantra just last month, a one way rental after I dropped the corolla off in philly. I only drove it for a coupe of hours, but it was nice. |

D3 has an Elantra. In 2011, some guy sideswiped her as she was traveling at 60mph. She rolled the car and they had to pull her out through the windshield. She survived with some airbag burn and a sore chest. That car saved her life. I'll post pics when I have access to a laptop where I can copy/paste, which I can't do from the ipad as I travel through central Wisconsin. It's a great car, with a great warranty, but: 1) I agree it's underpowered. Power is speed, and speed can be life 2) After 6 years, she's had no major issues with it, but it's starting to sound a bit rattle-prone. OTOH, the 2006 Audi, after 140 K miles is still solid as can be. 3) Been very reliable 4) Some of the materials are not quite as nice as they could be (plastics and cloths), and some of the trim around the dash looks just a bit cheap. |
