The internet-of-things clearly being on it's way to reality, I thought I'd ask this question - how many wifi-enabled devices do you have in your home? Include on the list those that you don't connect even though they have the ability.

I'll go first.

3 desktops
2 laptops
1 time machine
1 printer
3 tablets
1 kindle
2 phones
1 router
1 wifi extender
2 security cameras

Never configured:
1 AC unit. (yes, go figure)
2 garage door openers (yeah, the new ones you can control from your phone)

I think that's it. It definitely sounds like enough.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Heh... 3 of those and I do open/close them with my phone.

Do it... it's awesome.
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

How could that be easier than the button overhead? I guess if you're just puttering around the yard and want to open the doors, it might be easier to use your phone than punch a code in the gadget on the wall. But driving in I don't see it. And walking into the garage from the house, I have the buttons right next to the door.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yeah, hacking is a big problem. Those devices never get security updates. Ever.

Besides that I don't want a database somewhere keeping track of when I open and close my garage doors or turn on or off my AC.

I'm certainly not interested in the 'learning' thermostats that get to know when you're in a room. I don't want that stored somewhere either.

Not that I plan on committing any big felonies that might get that sh1t subpoenaed or anything.... but I want to keep my options open. :)

With Netflix and iTunes, and a plethora of free streaming content, it is basically obsolete.

I no longer own any dvd's or blu rays. I hate physical things and keep as much stuff as I can digital only.
