Can the media be prosecuted for hate speech?

That would depend on race, gender and political affiliation.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

One cannot yell "FIRE!" in a crowded theater.

If the media consistently prints falsehoods, inciting and churning the masses into acts of violence, is that not hate speech?

And to answer your question, at one time we just about could...And then came hate speech.

Either you want a free press or you don't. 'Free' doesn't mean unbiased.

The argument you are talking about has been employed by dictators and despots since time immemorial.

Also, people rarely, if ever, complain about press bias when the bias favours them. In other words, it's not just the press that's biased.

I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. Bias is one thing, an out and out lie is another.

We currently have a press that has abandoned objectivity, but worse, has abandoned the Truth.

National Review comments: Shame on the New York Times. Shame.

Quote:

Its editorial about yesterday’s shooting doesn’t just twist the truth; it may be libelous.

The New York Times published its editorial in response to yesterday’s vicious, violent, and explicitly political attack on Congressional Republicans — an attack that wounded four and left Representative Steve Scalise in critical condition in a Washington-area hospital — and it is abhorrent. It is extraordinarily cruel, vicious, and — above all — dishonest. The editorial doesn’t just twist the truth to advance the board’s preferred narratives; it may even be libelous, a term I choose carefully.

There are plenty of people that have abandoned the truth. If we're going to start locking people up for lying, Washington DC will be a ghost town.

Stuff has been going on for years. JFK had a lot of things written about him needing to be eliminated - of course, before it happened. Afterward - a lot of retreating from the hate speech.

Rand had a nice quote....
