The good 'ol days! I miss them. Anyone remember "gopher?" My first years as a univ. faculty member, that was how we corresponded. I love the way the woman, when asked why she uses a computer, states "household records, and I keep track of what I have in the fridge." And then, the dot matrix computer for printing. So slow, but I printed out my thesis on it. So impressive, print looked almost like a typewriter, but more importantly, to have a word processor software to edit, copy/paste etc., it was state of the art. Commodore 64. Vic 20. And then, hooked up with a 900 baud modem, late at night, wife and kids asleep, a stiff drink, contacting others to learn how to hack software just for the fun of it. The good 'ol days! I miss them!! |

Sure, I remember "Gopher." When Netscape first hit the scene, I remember going to a page that listed EVERYTHING that was new on the internet. Some days, there might be as many as 100 new sites! |

I remember all these shows from the 80's. There were some really good ones covering the BBC Microcomputer, which was easily the best of the home computers at the time. Sadly, we couldn't afford one and were stuck with the Dragon 32, a Tandy TRS-80 clone. |

I remember how I had modem envy after I watched WarGames in the mid 80s. It wasn't before around '92 or '93 that I had my first modem (or rather, could use the modem of my older brother sometimes). |

I had the 300 baud modem on the C64, 900 is total overkill. What would you do with all that data? |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

Ha! 300 Baud! Back in my amateur radio days I was doing RTTY communication on short wave with 45.45 Baud! The best hams could decipher the text by listening to it, without any modem attached. |
