HOLY CARP!!!
How this couple paid off $200,000 of debt in 2 years

That gets down to the real nuts and bolts. Except for the part about how much they were earning, which goes unspecified. Other than that, it's a complete recipe for those who want to save 100 thousand dollars per year. Apparently you have to be so frugal that when you pay for your wedding, you manage to save 20 thousand dollars off the unspecified total price. A total price which comes right out of the same pool of money from which you manage to save 100 thousand dollars per year.

It all seems pretty simple, it's a wonder more people don't do it.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

tl;dr

Is it better to make more or spend less?

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

There's the rub. When writing a story on saving money, it's better to focus on spending less. (While still allowing for egregiously stupid shit like spending some unspecified large multiple of 20 thousand dollars on a wedding, while you're "living as frugally as possible".)

When needing to actually save money, it's better to focus on making more.

Oh, and there was a pearl at the end about asking your boss for more money - because you value yourself, and therefore they should value you.

Considering I don't make anywhere near $100,000 a year, it'll be tough to save it.

C'mon Riley, you sure you don't make as much money as these guys?

Seriously, if you want to save money, do the Dave Ramsey thing, or a version close to it. It ain't rocket surgery, it's the same thing people have been doing for many, many years.

My favorite way of thinking about saving money (that thing I used to be able to do, before I began paying two mortgages...) is to consider how much more you can save, as a percentage increase, based on earning more. For most people, a small increase in salary, if you hold your expenses constant, yields a large percentage gain in how much you're able to save.

Keep saving, and eventually you hit a point where the returns you get on your savings is a significant part of your total income, which is pretty darn cool. Money without having to work for it. That's like magic.

Saving money is simple. Spend less than you make, and hide it from yourself.
