Interesting idea. thank you for sharing. If simple to maintain, I think it would be beneficial to undeveloped countries.

The problem will be storage.

But notice that there does exist some excess lift capacity...Would make a heckuva cell tower or radio transmitter. Within reason, multi-applications at an affordable cost.

Spoke with someone who had evaluated this company for a group of venture capitalists. He advised against. Reasons:

1. The weight of the cable limits the amount of electricity which can be transferred to the ground.
2. Initial target market was a situation where not much electricity was needed, such as third world subsistence farming villages. Problem is A) the prototypical customer did not have the money to purchase, or B) if they could buy it, it still has to be maintained, which requires sophisticated resources in remote areas which is expensive.
3. For 24 hour capability, you have to have a battery bank. Batteries tend to not last over about five years. Again, too expensive for targeted market.
4. If more than one unit is required, it's much cheaper to just buy a diesel generator.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Also a hazard for small aircraft. You would have to have a lot of lights which take more energy to run.
