Your chaps don't appear to be very good at keeping secrets. "Irritated" is what upper-class English people say when they want to say "douchebag".

Our chaps should keep their stiff upper lips attached to their stiff lower lips.

What is with all these leaks?
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

But I don't see where the N.Y. Times source is identifies as USAian. It could just as likely been a British leak.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

The comments from the British Home Secretary definitely indicated the British government believe that it was the US that leaked it. They're being very polite about it, but it's clear that's what they're saying. Obviously, the last thing they want to do at the moment is fall out with the US.

Asked on BBC Radio 4's Today programme about the US leaks, Ms Rudd said: "The British police have been very clear that they want to control the flow of information in order to protect operational integrity, the element of surprise.

"So it is irritating when it gets released from other sources and I have been very clear with our friends that that should not happen again."

Ms Rudd should realize the NY Times does not give a rat's ass about the "operational integrity" of the investigation. The NY Times has a presence in the UK with established 'inside' sources and will continue to publish anything they deem newsworthy. If Ms Rudd has concerns about the integrity of those outside of British investigators, order them NOT to share information.

It is not exactly news that the American intelligence community if full of blabber mouths, an affliction which has affected many organizations.

I think that's what they're doing now.
